How often do you give your baby, cereals or other foods

I have a 5 1/2 month baby girl who I am still breast feeding, but I am really struggling with my milk supply. I get up at 3am every morning to pump my breasts so I can give it to her in the evenings when my supply is low. I am breast feeding her 5 to 6 times a day, and I am giving her 1 feed of farex in the morning and the afternoon mixed with my breast milk. just wondering if I should increase this or add something else to her diet. I am trying not to use formula if I can help it, and I dont want her little bowels to get blocked up, as she only goes for her bowels every 3 days as it is. What should I do?

I do not give solids at this point.. still just breastfeeding. A couple things... all moms have a slightly lower milk supply in the evening. This is completely normal and I don't think you should have to pump to provide for that time. If you just nurse on demand your baby will get everything she needs. In the evening, your milk has a higher fat and protein content, and less of the watery stuff. Milk production works on a supply and demand basis.. so the more you nurse, the more you will produce. Offering supplements will only hurt your supply. Pumping cannot stimulate your supply as much as nursing can.

Also, it is totally normal for breastfed babies to go many days without pooping. Even as much as 10 days. This is normal due to the fact that breastmilk is so easily digested and used by the body so there is not as much waste produced. I think you should nurse on demand rather than giving a bottle, even if that means nursing every hour in the evening. Your body will make the milk! It is making milk even as your baby is nursing. I wouldn't pump.. get some sleep!
