No it wasn't hard. We took him to the speech therapist, because his speech wasn't up to standard, and she recognized it. From there we took him to a developmental pead, and he gave us the official diagnosis.

What is hard is to get him into a school. All the 'autistic' schools are far from where we live, and he functions to high to go there any way, but when main stream schools hears the word autism they, honestly, get rude and tell me they don't accept "those children".

We are trying to get him into a school for children with learning problems like ADD and ADHD. They have smaller classes any way.

I'm homeschooling at the moment, but since he is social, he really misses having friends around him.

He gets loads of help now, but ive had a life of hell, people just thinking he was a very naughty boy all the time, when he was very misunderstood. im a bit overprotective of him, he is gorgeous, we had funding through the school for a behaviour team, to help with empathy and social skills, which was fantastic, but no more funding available, but he has speech and language thearpy now in the school, his teacher is fantastic, she has really helped.

Did you find it hard to get a diagnosis??

Hi, my son turns seven in August, and he was diagnosed in April of last year. It is still hard for me to accept. And sometimes I still cry next to his bed while he's sleeping.

He has improved a lot since he has started Occupational therapy and Speech Therapy.

He also doesnt listen to what I say, but I suppose it's because he is growing up, and somewhere inside of him is just a "normal" boy. For the empathy and social skills, it has to be tought to him, as they don't just pick it up from our behaviour, like neuro typical kids do.

Is he recieving any therapy at the moment?

Good luck!
