Ladies!! Let's talk Autism

Hello ladies!

I have been peeking this site and all comments about autism for about a month now. Exactly 5 weeks ago my world stop when my mom mentioned that I should have my then 19 month old (now 20 months) for autism. I went thru denial, more denial, and some more denial (still somewhat in denial). Took LO (little one) to his regular pedriatician who said that he indeed looked like he was autistic. My next step was to schedule an evaluation with EI and they said that he is indeed on the spectrum. I now have an appointment with a DP (dear partner) on Wednesday and ENT next Monday.

These are his current signs:

- Very little pointing

- 80% not responding to his name. He responds if he is in another room and I call him. I see him peeping his head or running to the room to check if I am there.

- Eye contact is pretty good.

- Claps, used to wave, touches my nose, plays peek a boo, makes same noises with mouth that I make

- Says Yes (or Si in spanish) when you ask him if he wants more. Had more words but they come and go.

- Eats almost everything (he is in gluten free and dairy free diet)

- Cuddles

- Flaps his hands when excited or mad

- Babbles a lot

- If he sees us getting dress goes to the door, if we say meal time he gets ready to eat

- Eats with spoon and fork (with a little assistance)

- Always laughing and happy

- Climbs

- No eloping (very well behaved)

- He used to head bang but he does it a lot less. The decrease in this is huge.

- Feeds me grapes

- Plays with ball with me (this game consists of me giving him the ball and him giving it back to me) not really catch or anything

While he might not understand language or communication the same way we do, he is very smart. Yesterday he wanted to climb a chair on our office to play with the computer. I was standing there watching him so he then came to me pulled me to the chair, lifted his arms for me to pick him up and then pushed for me to put him down on the chair.

His assestment score:

Childbrain- Currently at 69

ATEC- 67

What are your LO's stories? What symptoms where they showing at this age? How are they doing now? Based on your experience (because trust me, you LADIES are a fountain of knowledge and so admirable) how is my LO (little one) doing in terms of severity.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. And you ladies ROCK!
