At my son's (age 5) IEP meeting earlier this week they told me that he would qualify for this. I am trying to figure out what exactly it is and what it covers and for that mater how. I tried calling my local office but they have not returned my call as of yet, she is out of the office??? I found pages online that outline the services covered but do not give any details. It says it covers:
Case Management
Homemaker
Personal Care
Respite
Attendant Care
Environmental & Minor Home Adaptations
Community Living Supports
Occupational, Phuysical, and Speech Therapy

But the truth of something is always in the details, right? For instance I am fairly certain that the horse riding therapy we have been wanting to get for his extremely low trunk tone but could not afford would be covered. But how about special adaptive plates and weight blankets, would that be covered under Environmental and Minor home adaptations??? Then there are confusing categories like homemaker and personal care. Any further details would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much in advance. : )

I was just approved for the waiver program in Kentucky & will be collecting the benefits of that shortly. My question is this: I am from Nashville & would like to move back in a year. Is there a waiver program in Tennessee, as well?
Thank you!

How Do I Apply for the
Michelle P. Waiver?
http://chfs.ky.gov/dms/mpw.htm
Who do I call to schedule the assessment?
Access – 859-272-7483
BLUEGRASS MH/MR BOARD
3161 Custer Drive, Suite 4
Lexington, KY 40517
Counties served: (Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard,
Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott, Woodford)
What do I say?
Tell them you need to schedule an assessment for your son/daughter to receive the Michelle P.
Waiver.
What will they ask me?
Your child’s name, address, social security #, date of birth, phone number and disability
information.
What happens next?
Someone will call you in a few weeks from Access (yes, it takes some time) to schedule the
assessment. They will come to your house to do the initial assessment. You will then be notified
by phone of approval or denial and what the next steps will be. This usually takes a few weeks
also. Be patient. This process takes some time.
What do I do after my child has been approved for the Michelle P. Waiver?
If your child has not been deemed disabled by the Social Security Office to receive SSI, you will
need to do this first (in most cases). Call the Social Security Office at 1-866-530-7754 to
schedule an appointment to apply for SSI. The office is located at 2260 Executive Drive in
Lexington. A denial is ok. You need to ask for a copy of the denial letter to take with you when
you apply for the medical card (see the next step below). Visit
http://www.socialsecurity.gov/pubs/11000... for more information. If you need assistance
with this process, please feel free to call me.
If your child does not have the medical card, they will need to become Medicaid eligible since
the Michelle P. Waiver is a Medicaid Waiver. To do this, contact the Department for
Community Based Services (DCBS). The office is located at 2050 Creative Drive, Suite 160 in
Lexington. The phone number is: 859-246-2070. It is best to call and schedule an appointment.
If your child is under 18, you will apply for them as an adult. Verbiage you need to say: “My
son/daughter has been approved for the Michelle P. Waiver and I need to apply for them as an
adult for the medical card.” Do not do this until your case manager at Access tells you to. You
must be in their system first. If your child has a medical card, you do not need to apply again.

Katie,

Can you tell me how you were able to apply for the Michelle P waiver if you live in Nashville please and thank you. I have an adult daughter with Downs Syndrome and we live in Southern Indiana and I work in Louisville KY. I am from Louisville and want to move home. My problem is I need adult daycare for Kari while I work. When I called Seven Counties about the Michelle P waiver they said call back when you buy a house in Kentucky.

I would appreciate any help or advice you have. I have heard you can have a temporary residence for the home visit but Seven Counties did not say anything about that.

I really cant buy a house in Lousiville until I sell my house in Indiana, and I cant sell my house in Indiana until I have worked out where Kari will go or who will stay with her during the day while I work.

Thanks so much for any input and from any other Mom's in the community with adviec about Michelle P waiver.

I live in McCrery County Kentucky my son receives the Michelle P. waiver but I can't get paid though adanta for my diapers for him. adanta recently made us purchase the diapers on credit card and then were to be reimbursed for the payment, well I turn in my receipts at the beginning of the month and that was last month it's been a month and a half still haven't got reimbursed. I know the first thing when I say diapers you think I'm talking about a baby. he is 32 years old but he's at the age level of a 2 year old. When this program began they gave you your budget check monthly to pay for the diapers and supplies now you purchase them first I'm poor that's one of the qualifications for the program now I have a big bill and can't pay it can someone please help me? Frankfort, Ky. won't answer questions nobody knows anything within the system
