my son took almost 4 yrs he knew what to do but would not do it because of change of routine. once we stopped pushing the issue he did it on his own its like hes afraid to do things people try to teach him he wants to teach his self how then get that recognition for it .

Sometimes little tricks like throwing a couple of cheerios into the potty as targets for him to aim for helps build enthusiasm. Some children naturally take longer than others. My son has Asperger's and he was not completely potty trained until he was almost five, the same goes for my step daughter, who was raised by her mother and has no PDD or other dissability, she was just stubborn about it. If your child is getting the idea, then you are doing something right, you probably just have to keep working on it and wait for it to fall into place for him. Hang in there. I remember thinking it was going to take forever at the time.
