My 11 year old austic son refuses to do work in school. He is in a special ed class, all the other students do their work. Not Justin. He will growl and make noise. The other kids tell him to be quite, some are starting to make fun of him. We have been told by his teacher his is fine in the morning, after lunch he get tired/spacy and refuses to do his school work. The teacher said once he snapes out of it, it's like he did not know what he was doing. We have tried talking to him, but he just argues he knows. Any ideas how to get him to understand what he is doing and that is it not acceptable in school? We also had to stop therapy due to insurance not covering anything until we pay a rediculous amount out of pocket first. Healthcare really needs to step up and take care of issues like this.

My son refuses to work and makes weird squealing noises apparently - I'll try the sugar reduction, but let me know if you hear of any behavior strategies that work! PLEASE>>>>

Have you looked into his diet to see if there may be something that effects him in a negative way? I have changed what my daughter eats for breakfast and lunch and it has made a huge difference in her behavior problems at school. For her, it was a reduction in sugar. A friend of mine found that cutting out foods with a lot of red dye helped her adhd daughter. I have seen several posts on here by moms who whole heartedly endorse specialized diets. It may be worth checking into. Best of luck to you!

Have you tried to apply for SSI? If they give him even just $1.00 a month in disabilty then Mainecare will cover him and that can help with theropy bills.
