I am taking my 20 month old son up to a cottage in 2 weeks and am wondering if anyone know of any safe bug repellents that work? He gets pretty mean looking welts from mosquito bites and I would really like to prevent them especially while up at the cottage.

I've used the OFF smooth and dry on my 21 month old and it works great. She gets eaten alive by mosquitoes and this stuff works every time.

My son is also 20 months old and I have been using "Bug Guard Plus" on his since he was about 4 months old. You have to order it through avon and you can get a spray or wipes, I use the spray and absolutly love it. My son has never had a bite until I ran out and used Deep Woods Off and he had 7 bites in one weekend. LOVE the stuff from avon and it doesnt smell bad!

I asked my daughter's pediatrician the same question when we went in the last time. Her skin is VERY sensitive and has whelps for sometimes weeks just from a mosquito bite. He recommended Off Deep Woods. So far we have had no trouble from it at all, even with her sensitive skin.

I have used Citronella oil (which is what we often used in the caribbean during rainy season). It is a natural essential oil and should be available anywhere you can buy essential oils. Alternatively, the drug stores sell those bug repellent bands and I have found both for myself and the kids they work pretty well. I still find once dusk comes that we need to cover up a bit anyway, but by then the day is winding down and kids are bathed etc., so it works out quite well. Hope that helps and have a wonderful time at the cottage!

Hey, my ped dr recommended the family off spray found at WALMART for my boy. I gave Daycare a bottle of it because he was getting eatten alive by mosquitoes. It works awesome and there are no side effects.

Anything without deet. Also Avon makes something called skin so soft it works well.

Just look for a repellant that says it is for kids. Those ones are safe for 6 months and up and they contain only 10% deet.
