It depends on how much you weighed before you got pregnant, the general guideline is
prepregnancy weight
normal=25-30 pounds
overweight=20-25 pounds
obese=15-20 pounds

but plenty of women gain more or less than recommended and have healthy pregnancies and successful weight loss postpartum.

When I was pregnant with my daughter (I was 19 at the time) I went from 145lbs pre-prego to 180lbs at 9 months. 35lb gain. This time I am 15 weeks along and started at 216lbs pre-prego and am currently 213lbs. I lost 4lbs my first month, and last month I only had a 1lb gain. My doctor isn't worried about it at all.

the doctors here seem concerned about nothing but weight it seems to me. i'm in the military but i'm going to a civilian doctor. i'm due Dec 31 and i've gained 19 pounds and they have told me on different visits that i am gaining weight too fast. it honestly pisses me off to tell you the truth. to me every pregnancy is different and womens bodies react differently, so there for i don't think that they should tell you anything about weight. i was in a wreck at 14 weeks, broke a rib that i was luck didn't end my life, a burn across my chest from the seat belt, and adominal trama. i lost 10 pounds from that and they are adding that into the weight that i have gained because i had to gain that weight back for my own health. i don't know the whole weight issue just weighs on me because i've always been small, i hate people telling me that i'm fat or gaining too much.

I am almost 12 weeks pregnant with my fourth & have only gained 5 lbs but none of my clothes fit, everyone including myself say I look like I gained more than 10/15 lbs. my last 3 kids were boys could this mean I'm looking heavier cause it might be a girl?

that website helped but i found out that i've gained 6lbs over so far, lol.. I was terrible at eating regularly (or at all) so now that i eat like i should 6lbs too many isnt very bad at all!! and actually I didnt start "showing" really until 25 weeks. As long as i have a healthy baby, thats all that counts..

I think we all should just worry about the babies we are carrying and not the weight we gain or loose unless it is detrimental to the babies health. We are all beautifully prego right now and we can wait to worry about the weight after delivery! Even if it means more appt with our runners and the tread mill lol! And Carolina I don't know what you are worried about you look great!

I was at the low end of healthy weight when I got pregnant. My doctor said that she expects me to gain about 1lb a week for the whole pregnancy, which would put my weight gain at 40lbs. I am currently at 32 weeks and have gained 26lbs...however, it doesn't look like it. I think it all depends on how you're built. I'm 5'6 and was 120lbs at my 1st doctor's appointment (at 6 weeks).

I am 32 weeks and have gained 4.5 pounds. I was a little overweight to begin with so my doctor says it's ok. As long as your baby is growing, I don't think your weight matters as much

I'm 32 weeks today and i've gained 60 lbs already. I gained 50 lbs with my daughter 7 years ago but most was swelling, it was all gone within a month and a 1/2. I eat pretty good and exercise now so i don't know why i've gained so much, and still have 2 months to go. Hopefully it will all go away quick like thr first time(even tho not to much swelling yet). I think we are all just made to gain differently. With age, number of pregnancies, and weight before( I was smaller this time to start).

I gained 50 pounds with my daughter, with this pregnancy i've only gained 15 pounds in 30 weeks. I think it just depends on how much exercise you get and what your eating. They say between 20-35 is ok. If you breastfeed you should loose the weight pretty quickly I lost all 50 pounds in 6 months.

I am 5' 4" and almost 31 weeks and so far I have gained 36 pounds already. My doctor has not seemed concirned that I have gained so much weight however I am SO SO discusted with my self knowing I have 2 months to go still. I dont think it would be healthy to diet at this time but some days I feel like I am NEVER going to get "my" body back!!!

I'm certainly not a doctor, but I know that your ideal weight gain has alot to do with your weight before pregnancy. If you are over weight before pregnancy, then your weight gain should be less than that of someone of average pre-pregnancy weight. If you are under weight before pregnancy, then your weight gain should be more than that of someone of average pre-pregnancy weight. I wouldn't just go by what others are gaining, instead, I would ask your doctor so that it is specific to your body type. Good luck!

My doctor isnt worried about me only gaining 5 pounds. My last visit she was 2 weeks ahead of schedule, and ultrasound put her at about 3 lbs 4oz. Which is right where she should be.

I'm 5'9 and have gained 18 pounds at a little over 27 weeks. The doctor says the baby and I are both growing at the rate we are supposed..im just worried about gaining to much in the next couple of months since the baby still has a lot of growing to do.

I have actually lost 32 pounds and so havent gained any over what I have lost because I would have to gain the 32 back and then some!! My doctor says that as long as the baby is getting everything that she needs I am fine and there is no reason to worry!! I was very sick in the beginning so I didnt eat much at all and got sick almost everyday it was miserable I still have my days but I am doing much better!!

I am due in the end of December and i am only up 4 pounds. My doctor is not at all concerned, the baby was bigger than average at our 20 week ultrasound and no one seems to have any concerns. With my first daughter i gained most of my weight toward the end, i think i put on close to 30lbs at least 20 of that in the last two to three months.

My OB says that over the whole pregnancy healthy weight to gain is around 25-35 pounds I have gained 22 now. but I am sure everyone is different so a little more or a little less is probably ok! In regards to the comment I've only gained 5 pounds Only gaining 5 pounds is kinda scary for your baby especially if you are due in december some time. You should be getting prenatal care and probably should go talk to your Dr about that.
