introducing meat

I'm interested to learn about your experiences with introducing meat..My daughter is 9,5 months. I have already tried baby jar meal with chicken and rice - refused, baby jar - turkey - refused. The only option left i think is to try make some home made meat puree.
Please share your ideas :)

My son never liked the turkey ones at all. We don't give him much baby food anymore. He much prefered "real' meat. Turkey is now his favorite! He jsut turned 10 months and has no teeth, but that doesn't stop him at all!! Don't get between him and his food!!

Try ground beef, fish, slow-cooked pork or chicken cut small. Tender meat cut small is fine for a kid this age, and I think the flavor and texture are better than pureed stuff. I even let my daughter have some larger / tougher pieces that she can't chew up, just to suck on for the flavor. She seems to enjoy it.

I have only given my daughter jar food once and that was when we were travelling to visit relatives. Never again. It made her really sick (couldn't keep anything down apart from breast milk for 48hrs). I have always given my daughter real food and have gone the 'baby-led' weaning way. I've only done 'baby-led' weaning as she won't let me anywhere near her with a spoon! Oh well. I give her meat in large enough chunks to hold in her hand to suck on. She gets heaps of nutrients that way and is very happy. I make sure the chunks are large enough so she doesn't choke. She's yet to choke on anything so I must be doing something right!!

we puree like meatloaf, or ground beef with rice, or chicken with rice or mashed potatoes and some chicken broth for consistency. :) my 10 1/2 month old girl loves it!

she is really open into eating whatever we give her, she's super easy to please!!

the only jar type meat we gave her was the chicken /turkey sticks (somewhat like vienna sausage.)

i first introduced meat (chicken and ground beef) to my son when he was 6mths and he's loved it ever since. i puree the meat and potatoes and veggies altogether and he loves it. altho when i prepare chicken and rice, i cut the chicken into small pieces and mix that with rice - he likes that also, but not as much as the potato-puree mix. good luck!

maybe try making your own baby food by blending in the meat with mashed potatoes or something like that?
Really though, that is only a guess as I started all three of my children on baby food at around 3 months, and at 10 months my youngest (like her older brother and sister who are now 14 & 17 years old) eats 100% table baby food at all....she also eats seafood, peanut butter, strawberries, oranges, etc..... I am an older mother and it was no big deal with the older kids and I simply don't see the point in waiting.... And NO....none of my kids are overweight or have ANY food allergies...
Good luck though....

Try different brands. I have found that can make all the difference. We started him on baby meat at 5 mo, and real meat at 7-8, but he will still eat the jar stuff. We get WIC so he has 2 more months of baby food.

My boys loved meat from 5-6 months. They eat meatloaf, chicken, pork chops and pretty much anything. I just bought some salmon today, I'm going to try that some time this week! Meatballs are their favorite. Try that, I know it will be messy but they might like it with a little bit of sauce. I just cut it up into finger food size and they devour them!

my lil guy hated the baby jar meat, couldnt say I blame him, the stuff smells like canned cat food. my son has been eating real meat for about 2-3 months now. I dont puree it, i just cut it into small pieces, he does really well with chewing. My friend gave my son beef stroganoff and he refused baby food ever since then. When its time to eat he gets sooo excited, lol.

I introduced beef minced up to my 9.5 month old son a while back and he wasn't a fan as it went realt gritty almost and even to me the texture was yuk pureed! Chicken did the same too but the jarred food seem to make it nice and smooth. My son rarely eats puree now as he eats whole things and can eat pieces of chicken, pieces of meat chopped up and pieces of fresh ham off the bone. He loves it alot better than the pureed mixtures!

I had the same struggle. Even with teeth my 9 month old was struggling to chew enough to swallow her food. So I gave her a sausage.. and never looked back. Now she eats meat a few times a week, I find the better quality meat from the butchery is better as she wont eat over processed foods.
