I have been losing heaps of hair lately and it never occurred to me that it could have been from pregnancy/baby. I am picking hair off my baby girl all day so its nice to know why. Thanks

Oh my goodness. Me too. I thought it was just me also. My shower is full of hair and all around the sink. It is disgusting.

It's happening to me too- Gobs of hair coming out, it seems, but somehow I still have a ton on my head :) One thing I try to be careful of is my hair getting around my baby's fingers and toes. I'm trying to keep my hair pulled back but even still I notice my hair everywhere around the house and a few times strands of hair have been tangled in my baby's hands. I have read of this happening to a few babies when a strand of hair gets wrapped tight around a finger or toe, it could cut of circulation. Not that we don't already worry about our babies, just thought I'd add one more thing. Better to be aware.

Yes I loved Kathy's response as well and I am going though it for the second time with my second child. The first time I lost all my fringe and had to move the hair down as I didn't know what was happening and it took a while to grow back this time how ever I knew what was happening it is very normal to have this happen even though I knew no one that went through this.

don't worry there are alot off women going through it with you your not alone.

I love Kathy's response. It's the scientific response to what I was going to say. My hairdresser tried to freak me out when I was pregnant saying all her pregnant clients got bald patches after giving birth as all their hair fell out (nonsense). You're only losing the hair you would have lost anyway had you not been pregnant. My boy is 3 months (and 10 days) and I noticed just yesterday all my hair in the shower drain! and last week I was very conscious of the fact that I was shedding much more than usual. Happens to us all. It's all good. You're just shedding the hair you don't need...the excess if you will. We're not balding! :)

It's totally normal, I went through a month of mass shedding with my first, and am just waiting for it to start with the second one (who's 11 weeks as of yesterday). Hang in there, it stops eventually. Kathy Smith gave a great explanation of what's going on.

Its normal, unfortunately for your drains and hair brush though ;) Like everyone is saying keep taking the prenatals. Enjoy it, thats less hair you have to deal with :)

Yes!!! It is driving me insane!! I haven't asked my doctor about it, I just figured it was normal and keep taking the prenatals (when I remember). Good luck!!

My hair started falling out when my little one turned 11 weeks. My OB warned me that it would happen & she was right:) It's perfectly normal--as far as I know!! My hair always "shed" before pregnancy so I have no concerns.

I am losing way more hair than before too. It is perfectly normal and I read can take months and months for it to get back to "normal"...that is...not losing so much. So, don't worry it's all part having a baby...normal.

It's totally normal, what happens during pregnancy is that our hair goes into a growth phase and the "falling out" phase is stalled, which is why our hair got so thick during pregnancy. It is a form of alopecia but it is referred to as post partum alopecia. The hair that would've fallen out during pregnancy finally sheds as normal shedding in addition to the hair that is slotted so to speak to fall out during this fall out period. As of yet my lil one is 15 weeks old and I haven't had excessive shedding but a few years ago I had a stint with alopecia areata and knew that losing a lot of hair after pregnancy could be a possibility. Keep taking your multivitam as it has the folic acid you need. Do a search for www.keritan.com or something like that, it will take you to a hairloss forum which is phenomenal and helped me through my alopecia areata (patchy hair loss) and told me how to deal with the emotional issues that came with the hair loss. For pregnancy hair loss I don't believe there really is a treatment because it is a very normal occurance. Your okay hun, don't feel alone, or helpless, your hair will go back into the normal growth/fall out phases soon and it'll be a faint memory.

Hope that helped and if you need to chat more feel free to message me andI'll do what I can to help and send you into the right directions for answers.

keep taking your prenatals it will help, i am an esthetician and we learnt in school that the only thing that effects hair growth is pregnancy ex: your hair becomes thicker when your pregnant true lol . So it could just be your body going back to normal, no worries in less you develope a bald spot lol . Your fine hun :)
