Peanut Butter...

[deleted account] ( 13 moms have responded )

Has anyone introduced their babies to peanut butter or any other nut butter yet? I was thinking of introducing my little one's soon. I know the recommended age is 3 if their is a family history of allergies. I have also read that if there is no history 1 year is acceptable.

My doctor gave me the OK at 1yr because we have no history of nut allergies in the family. He doesn't LOVE it, but he will eat it on toast. Give it a try. It's a nutritious substitute for a meat sandwich.

We have tried peanut butter with our little one. We spread it thinly on a cracker and she loves it.

Yes, I started about a month ago. It's so exciting that they can eat everything now, isn't it? :) I switched the whole family over to the kind of pb that has ONLY peanuts in it, instead of the usual pb with hydrogenated oil and lots of sugar.
It's actually healthy, so I feel good about feeding it to my baby.

I gave my son peanut butter when he was 1`1 months old (or should i say my daughter shared her sandwich with him) The child health nurse told me as long as there is no family history of allergies then 12 months is fine to give babies smooth peanut butter.

Thank you all for your advice and recommendations. Since I started this thread I have given my twins some peanut butter a couple of times and no reaction. Thanks again for your help

We didn't give it to her.

She found a peanut on the ground and ate it. Oh the horror, I could have died. I just waited for her to fall over in a coma :D
She was fine. And only a year old. Now we get fresh organic peanut butter from Whole Foods. They grind it in front of you. Totally awesome.

We started peanut butter around 10 months when my husband inadvertently gave our LO peanut butter crackers. When she didn't have a reaction, we figured we were good to go. Now she eats peanut butter and jelly's on whole wheat, or peanut butter spread over whole grain waffles.... almost every day for breakfast! The only exception is scrambled egg with cheese... and every breakfast is accompanied by fruit. Healthy, easy.... and quick! Just make sure the swallowing isn't an issue. I'd think it would be an easy food to choke on
