When did the pounds stop coming off (during Breastfeeding) or did it? I have a 6 month baby and I seem to be slowly gaining weight again.

My son is 6 months and i swear i weighed less when i came out of the hospital then i do now and nothing seems to be working. its over whelming when you have to do everything on ur own let alone trying to find time to work out and eat right. so i can relate to how everyone feels its disapointing and u feel unhappy with urself.

I am having the same problem as everyone else. Now I don't feel so alone. By the time my son was a month old I was smaller than I have been in years but now I am bigger than I have been in years. I am so frustrated but it's really hard to do everything and find time to work out.

Well my daughter just turned 7 months and I am definitely NOT eating twinkies yet my weight is literally fluctuating 5-10lbs up and down daily. Its driving me mad and messing with my wardrobe.
I work full time teaching HS so I am constantly walking, running, eating small snacks like apples and nuts and drinking water and I am gaining weight. I was smaller 4 months ago- WTH?
Also I teach Anatomy& Physiology and I know my metabolism has slowed down for now. With my 1st daughter I was back to a size 2 in less than a month- I was also 18. Now at 37 I am barely fitting a size 6 and I feel terrible I was a size 2 before( I am 5'2). I work out 3x a week at work too. So it is NOT just an eating issue. Can someone please give me some advice. I am thinking its likely my Endocrine System, hormones and H2O retention.

I was 93 lbs pre-pregnancy & I had my girl on December 23rd and gained 40 pounds. I breastfed for the first two weeks and lost all of the weight within the first three weeks.

If you're truly having a problem with weight gain post-pregnancy, here's something to think about... PUT THE TWINKY DOWN! You're not pregnant anymore so stop eating like you are. If you just HAVE to eat something, don't go for the french fries. Grab some water and down it. If you're still hungry, get a piece of fruit... Anyways, once that has been set in your mind, you'll start to see pounds fall off your body. Like I said, I weighed 93 lbs pre-pregnancy, I weigh 90 lbs now, and I had my baby almost 7 months ago.

There's no excuse why you gain weight (unless you have a medical condition). You control what you put in your mouth. :) I promise anyone can lose the weight. Also, try a daily supplement of Acai' (only if you're NOT breastfeeding). It helps maintain a healthy weight and it's very very good for you.

I lost all of the weight I had gained during pregnancy in the first 3 weeks post partum, then once I stopped nursing at 7 weeks, the pounds started coming back. I am now up 20 pounds since my son was 3 weeks old. My son is now 7 months, and I hope I can change this soon!

See How I lost weight.

Both their real-life experience and the latest fitness research suggest that low- to moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, while beneficial, is not the fastest route to leanness and overall health that many people believe it is. The real key to fat loss is high-intensity exercise, especially strength training.

I am so glad to know I am not alone on this journey of weighloss. My second daughter is 4 months old and am 15kg overweight.i try very hard to eat healthy but the days when things are unsettled food is my friend and companion. I think it is possible to lose the weight very gradually but it will take loads of motivation and dedication. I will be a working mom in 2 months and this will be quite challenging will balancing 2 kids drop offs to school with the 5year old and little one going tyo gran. I am starting now rather than later to manage my eating and at least excercising by walking. Will give it my best to fit into myself again

I have had the same problem only i cant seem to find anyone who has gained as much as me about a month after i had my daughter in march 09 i started getting the depo, i breast fed for the first 6 months but didnt loose any weight like most people say and i just seemed to gain more and more weight every month it has now been 3 years i came off depo last christmas and went onto the implant and have still been putting on weight i have put on in total 4 stone in that short amount of time and cant seem to loose it even with a proper diet and exercise i cant seem to loose a pound. my doctors are pretty much useless they just tell me im lazy and dont exercise enough even though i go to the gym 3 times a week 2 hours each time and give it my all every time aswell as running about here there and everywhere after my daughter and do alot of walking.

I'm having about the same experience that I had with my first pregnancy... I lost about 20 lbs in the first couple weeks after giving birth and nothing since then. On the other hand, I only put on 8 lbs this last pregnancy, so I'm lighter now than I've been since DD#1 was born. I was doing a lot of exercise for several weeks without losing any weight, although I felt a lot better. I know I'll need to put myself on more of a diet along with the exercise to really lose the weight, but I wanted to wait until DD#2 is weaned.

Another factor-- if you're not getting enough sleep it messes with your metabolism and the hormones that regulate your appetite. Do what you can to get baby to sleep through the night and see how much that helps! And meantime, give yourself a bit of a break. You're spending an awful lot of time and energy on the baby, and that will get better.

Are you guys on birth control? When I had #1, I wasn't on b/c and lost weight like crazy. Within 8 months I'd lost all 65lbs *gasp* and I was back to my pre-baby weight (and was also preggo again.) With #2 it took much longer to loose weight, but I was on depo. Once off depo I lost the rest. #3, no b/c and back to pre-baby weight within a couple of months....of course if I get preggo again, that won't help the weight! Good luck guys!

I put on 30kg during pregnancy. Everyone told me the weight would melt away while breastfeeding so i didn't worry about it at the time. 6 months later i hadn't lost a single kg. I don't eat junk food and i'm fairly active (i don't to a lot of excercise but constantly running around doing this, that and the other). I have always been 50kg and not able to put on weight even if i tried so it has been really hard for me. I got so down about it the doctors diagnosed me with post natal depression. My daughter is now almost 8 months and I had to stop breastfeeding when she was 6.5 months.

Since stopping breastfeeding I have been on an extremely strict diet of low carbs, little to no fat, no sugar and lots of fruit and veg. It's been hard going and i don't have as much energy as i used to but i've lost 5kg (aprox. 11lb) and my self esteem is slowly on the mend.

I now realise there are heaps of people out there with the same problem and it IS good to know i'm not alone. For us, it's not as easy as breastfeeding more or watching what we eat. Every day is a battle but i figure with a heap of determination, motivation and persistance i'll eventually get to my goal weight.

I was lucky to have gone back to prepregnancy weight shortly after delivering, however, I have noticed certain areas on my body are plumper all of a sudden. My plan to to increase my water to about 100 oz a day. (I know I am not drinking enough). I am going to cut out all the extra junk that seems to make it's way into my mouth and definitely try to exercise as well. Good luck....If you put your mind to it, you will lose the weight you gained.

I had the same experience with my weightloss. I lost all of my 33 lbs that I gained during pregnancy within 3 weeks of giving birth. Then once my daughter started to sleep through 6-hour night without nursing I started to gain weight. Now she is 7 monhs and has started solids (once a day) and waking up at night to nurse (probably because my milk supply went down due to her consuming other foods and she's not liking it). I'm loosing again!! Try breastfeeding more and snacking (healthy of course)

My first child is two, and I couldn't seem to stop gaining weight after I had him. My second child is 7 months old and I am still gradually losing weight. I have lost about 30 pounds....completely by accident. I was a lucky one. My metabolism shot through the roof and I don't know what happened!

I guess I was lucky, then! I was back to prepregnancy weight by my six week check up. I am now 10lbs UNDER my pre pregnancy weight. I stopped breastfeeding when he was 4 months because I got an infection and had to stop =( But I have managed to keep the lbs off and still eat whatever I want... I know it won't last forever but I'm enjoying it for now!

Hi, when my son was 4days old i managed to fit bk into my size 8 jeans although they were pretty tight. On that same day i had a serious car accident and following this lost a lot of weight down to a small size 6. But the as i started to recover and i got the contraceptive injection my weight has gone back on. My weight is up and down all the time recently. I am still fitting into size 8 jeans but sumtimes they are really tight other times the fit nice. It really gets me down. Liam has just turned 7mnts, Kaydi is 20mnts and Jay has just turned 3!

Are you still breastfeeding? My son is 7 1/2 months and still breastfeeding. I am now 20lb lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight and losing about 2lb a month (very slow but in the right direction :-)).

Also are you giving pureed food or baby led weaning? I have found that my diet is so much better now that I am baby led weaning as I am making sure we have a load of fruit and veg in the house all the time. I also eat what my son doesnt - so I am seemingly eating less junk as filling up on fruit and veg!!

Put those too things together with a crawling baby I seem to be losing the weight. Good luck! :-)

I breastfed Elijah until he was 6 months old, unfortunately my breastmilk dropped when I started back at work. I have been slowly putting on weight ever since the day I had him! I weighed myself just the other morning and have put on 10kgs! I'm eating healthy, but still putting on the weight... Open to any suggestions?

Well, ladies, post-pregnancy weight gain can be from a few problems, but the biggest is thyroid issues. You should call your doc and get some tests done. Can cause lots of other problems too. Mine just keeps me from losing weight after the first big period of weight loss. Good luck!

I know it might sound strange but for those of you who are still breastfeeding maybe you arent eating enough? when your body doesnt get enough food it goes into starvation mode and holds onto fat instead of metabolising it, maybe try eating more (good stuff) You probably dont want to hear this but I am back to my under my pre preg weight and my daughter is 7 months old, but i didnt loose the last 5kg until she hit 5 months and started waking up again in the night to feed.

Oh wow! I am so pleased I am not alone ! Although I gained a lot - about 30kg :( mostly because of fertility treatment so hormones/metabolism were going crazy - I've lost 14kg since birth of my son (now 7 months) but have now plateaued and haven't lost any more for about a month which SUCKS! I am still breastfeeding before his solids and increasing my excercise but is just not coming off! hard now weather is changing and I have a wardrobe of lovely clothes I can't fit and all I want to wear is trackies ! ha ha x this was a great chance to vent thanx x

[deleted account]

I have a 7 month old and I am the same size before I got prego maybe a little heavier. After I had my daughter I lost all the weight but had surgery 2 weeks after I had her. After that the weight came right back! I have tried being more active eating less fattening food and such but it hasn't made a difference. I was told by my doc that by 9 months is when most women start seeing it shed.

I'm definitely in the same boat as all of you, after I had my daughter I was 6 lbs lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight, which totally made me happy. Now I am finding myself gaining all of it back. It may not be much but I expected to weigh more right after having her rather than 7 months later. I work out probably 3-4 times out of the week not counting how active my daughter has made me but none of this is helping me loss the weight and keep it off. I'm still partially breastfeeding so I thought that would still play to my advantage but it's not either. I would have preferred to deal with my weight gain right away instead of now.

Glad to hear that other people are having this issue. My daughter is 7 months old-after I had her I was 15lbs lighter then I was pre-pregnancy but now have been gaining.

[deleted account]

I was retaining fluid like crazy by the end of my pregnancy. At that point I was 60 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight. After my daughter was born I lost 30 lbs within a week. My daughter is nearly 7 months and I haven't lost the other 30 lbs at all, but I also haven't gained anything either.
