My son is almost 6 weeks & has had alot of problems with his formulas. First he was breastfed, then had regular similac which didnt settle with his belly, then soy, which constipates him, doctor said to try nestle goodstart regular (dairy) & he throws it up ... what to do? is the last resort nutramigen formula? i heard its the gentlest. if anyone has tried nutramigen formula please let me know its effects.. !!

Nutramigen formula was the 4th formula we tried with my daughter and seems to be the miracle worker! Tried Enfamil Premium Lipil, Gentlease, then Similac Soy, she was severely constipated and very colic like on all 3. Found out she has a milk/soy protein allergy so went to Nutramigen formula on Doctors orders. I noticed some improvements (less fussy) within a day and she was pooping on own (twice a day) by day 3. Downfall to the product: I noticed a lot of spit up for first 3 weeks, she eats more often, and it stinks going in & coming out! Now we've been on it 5 weeks and spit up seems to be less and less and she's still doing great on it! From what I've read...its very similar to Similac Alimentum but some babies do better with one than the other for whatever reasons. I googled Nutramigen vs. Alimentum, there's a lot of post comparing the 2. Before you buy either one, ask your pediatrician for a sample, most offices have them. Its expensive to buy only to find out it don't work. Hope it helps & Good Luck!

hi, my daughter is on nutramigen formula, we have try'd many formulas and she was having the same problems as your son..she is doing much better on the nutramigen formula so i might be worth a try for your son, the only down side to it is that it is pricey.. and very hard to find as not many people use it ( only 1 out of 10 stores i went to sold it!) i would also advise that you ask your sons ped if they can get you an allergy test done to see if its a milk allergy..or a cows milk allergy. oh and if you do try it out keep in mind that if it is an allergy that he is having to the other formulas it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to right the damage done to the intestens...but for my daughter she was doing better within a few days of starting nutramigen formula!! i wish you and your son all the best and i hope you find something that works

Why did you stop breastfeeding? That is the perfect formula and anything else is inferior because breast milk is made just for your infant. If you contact LaLeche League in your local area, they usually have a milk bank of breastmilk to help with situations like yours. They cam also help you resume breastfeeding and learning to relax and connect with your baby as he nurses. There is mire to nursing than just the milk too. It is a bonding that releases oxytocin in mom and baby . That makes the bonding process stronger.

Any formula is going to be less than what the baby will get from your own body. I would encourage you to try again with help if you need it. All the additives in formulas are not the best way to get them growing.

My son had problems with formula as well. I finally had to switch him to hypoallergenic formula becuse he has a protein allergy to cow's milk. He is still having problems even digesting the little amount of protein that's in taht so we are having to go see a specialist to get him switched over to amino acid based formula

i personally didnt try it, my daughter is on the nestles goodstart gentle plus (the orange can) and she has no problems with it...my sis tried the nutramigen formula w/ her youngest son, he's gonna be 18 months old on the 12th, he didnt tolerate too well, then again, my sis had an allergy test done on him at like around 2-3months old and found out he was/is allergic to cow's milk/milk-based formulas so he had to go on soy formula. but i hear it's pretty good.

I have my son on enfamil premium and he is doing great on it and they make diff kinds of it like gentelease and a.r. And in pretty sure one of them is for spitting up and I think the other is for fussy/gassy babies I just don't remember which is which bit if you sign up on the enfamil website they send you samples and they also send you coupons so you could use a coupon on a little can of it just to see how it works and if it's not good then it's not like a ton of money wasted
