3 month old sucking on fists....why?

My 3 month old is sucking on her fists so bad that she often gags herself with her fingers. I am wondering why and if anyone has experienced this? My first daughter did the same because of teething, but she was a month older. Could she be teething already? She's also drooling all over the place. I've read that baby's salivary glands kick in shortly after birth, but the chewing and sucking on her fists has me wondering.

My 3 month old is sucking on her fists and her fingers so much that she gags herself so I know the feeling. She is also having alot of extra saliva, I think that she is just beginning to teeth, she won't take a pacifier at all. If her gums are sore you can take a washcloth with cold water on it (drain the cloth) and gently rub it on her gums she'll probably bit down on it, it seems to help

My son is the same age and doing the same thing. I am guessing teething. also, he doesn't take a pacifier so maybe it is a soothing habit too.

I'm gonna say she's teething. My little man started doing the same thing at about the three month mark. Some babies just teeth that early.

My daughter sucked on her fists during the first 6 months or so of being born. She did it to soothe herself, especially when she was sleepy. She never took to a pacifier, just preferred her hands. But it could be that your little one might be going through the initial stages of teething and her gums just might be a bit tender.

My daughter does the same thing. She sucks her thumb, fingers and fist. I don't think she's teething yet. Babies like to explore things by putting them in their mouths.

My 3 and a half month old does the same thing, he is teething but it is also natural for babies to find their hands and get them into their mouths, my son does take a pacifier but still sucks his fist I think it is just natural.

My 2 month old lil girl has been sucking on her fists. I have found that she has a strong sucking reflex and it not only soothes her in between feedings but she does it when shes bored as well. Try an orthodontic approved soothie or pascifier and see if that doesn't help to prevent her from gagging on her fists. But there are times she spits out her soothie and suck on her fists as an early sign that she is getting hungry and to hurry up and get ready to feed her. Just try and see what works for her but remember that all babies put things in their mouths as a way to explore the world around them! Hope this helped!

I'm gonna say teething or hungry. My son started teething at a month and a half. Vanilla Extract works for teething. Take a q-tip and put a little on that and let her suck on it for a few seconds and offer a binky or bottle.
