Baby Cereal

I was wondering when is the appropriate time to stop feeding baby cereal? My son is almost 9 months old and I still feed him baby cereal 2 times a day for meals along with some baby food. I also still nurse him 4 times a day.

I think you should keep going with the cereal..maybe mix it in with other foods. Nursing babies need iron in their diet because they might not get enough from you. Baby cereals usually have added iron in them. If you want to move on the other foods you should make sure that your son is getting enough iron from them.

Foods that are a good source of iron include:

beans, including kidney, lima, navy, black, pinto, soy beans, and lentils

iron fortified whole grains, including cereals, breads, rice, and pasta

greens, including collard greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach, and turnip greens

vegetables, including broccoli, swiss chard, asparagus, parsley, watercress, brussel sprouts

Hope that helps :)

You don't have to stop just because he is bigger as long as he likes it. He is probably ready for soft finger foods and regular mushed rice though and doesn't need extra mushy stuff anymore.
