Finding a local freecycle site or asking on Craigslist is one great way to do it (as others mentioned). Also, in my area there are mom-2-mom sales which charge a small admission but it is like a huge garage sale of only baby stuff. I look for the tables which sell items for only 50 cents each (usually there are a few) and stock up everything I need. Sometimes it is faded or a little bit stained but generally is not too bad.

My son grew about one size each month (was in 12M by the time he was 4 months) so I got really good at finding clothes for cheap! One suggestion I also have is keep an eye on these free sites and take clothing that is too big right now as well, I have a few boxes of things too big but at least I know I wont have to purchase them later!

Freecycle.org, link up with the one in your area, you can post wanted: baby clothes, and people who have clothes to give away will email you and you just pick it up...good luck

Op shops and garage sales. People's babies wear things once or twice and grow out of it and they're usually like $1 each and stuff from those kind of places.

garage sales, local churches, contact your human services department, sometimes they can refer you to "voucher only" shops that require a slip from them to recieve free clothing.

goodwill or a local thrift store. You could search online, or call/look for places in the phone book.
