My 3 month old is having 8oz bottles during the day and a 9oz before he goes to bed, he started having an extra bottle maybe too, so he is having 7 or 8 bottles, do i replace a bottle with baby rice? or is he too young?

I wouldn't know how much bottle fed babies eat per day/night, but have been told that solids r just for practice before a year and not to put the rice cereal in his/her bottle. I would try some with a spoon first(it should b very thinned down with formula). If he still has that tongue thrust reflex( they push food out with their tongue in order not to choke) then no matter how hard u try he won't b ready for a while. Plus just 3 short months ago he wasn't taking any nourishment by mouth, so his digestive tract is still kinda immature. I don't know if this is helpful or not. My baby was EBF til 6m when I started him on solids, but he started showing a real interest in food @ about 4 1/2 -5 m and that CAN b an indicator. He thinks he's a big boy now that he gets baby food. Oh and rice cereal made my babe very constipated(or maybe digesting it while sleeping just gave him upset tummy?) so I didn't feed cereal b4 bedtime. But I say whatever works for u & your babe...sometimes we moms gotta go with that gut feeling. Good luck:)

my son was also having roughly the same amount of bottles with 8 oz's in also. i was told to start feeding him on baby rice and baby porridge so from him being 3 months i started him on baby rice which he took to that straight away and the bottles cut down to about 5-6 bottles a day then when he was 4 months i started giving him porridge now he is 5 months old and he has porrage when he gets up then a bottle about dinner time then he has a little bit of tea then a bottle before bed then one inbetween 2am and 4am during the night.some times he has 4 bottles a day they are still 8 oz bottles. hope this helps you in your decision.

It seems like an awful lot of milk you are giving him. Check with your doctor.

As for the rice, I started giving my baby rice at 4 months old. However, it was basically milk with rice in it because I watered (milked) it down so much. He is too young to have rice in a solid form.

In australia our recommended guigelines to start is 4-6mths. I started Wil at 4mths on Farex, baby rice cereal but i wontt be next baby. I think if your bub is content and putting on weight well then i would wait a little longer. His digestive organs arent mature enough yet to handle the waste that comes with solids. Hope this helps a bit x

You should be able to start them on rice bottles but i was told they should only be having 5oz. You should check with the doctor.

I was using rice with my son when he was a month old. He was always hungry. I would do 4scoops of formula and 2scoops of cereal(rice) for 8oz bottle(for my 3month old. If he is not ready for it he will just throw it up. My mother told me to do it and its fine. I guess she put rice in my bottle when I was 2weeks old.
