My little girl had colic and acid reflux! Her doctor suggested giving her cereal when she was only 2 weeks old. It does no harm to the baby. Babies that have problems spitting up and when they arent sleeping good, it helps keep their tummys full. You can mix it with water, formula, or juice. It works wonders.

My son had reflux as well and my doctor told me to put a little bit of rice cereal in his formula- so I did that. But since the time he was born he was eating SO much. Let's face it he's a big boy and that would happen I thought. At a little after 3 months I decided I'd try the cereal despite my doctor telling me not to until 4 months. It's obvious by the posts that all doctors say different yet we've all turned out just fine whether we were started at 4 months, 6 months, or 2 weeks. I say do what you feel is best. The only reason I started early was because he was already eating 4- 9oz bottles a day (I knew this was a lot) and formula is expensive so I wanted to curb him from increasing his intake any more at that time and a little bit of rice cereal would fill him up. I didn't just do this without researching about it. I felt safe after my mom said she did it with me, and my grandma with her and reading many things online. If you feel your daughter is ready I say try it. Just don't rush into anything because you're anxious for the next stage. Do it when it feels right for your daughter and you.

I started my son on cereal in his formula at 2 months old. His doctor doesnt know he has been getting cereal in his bottle with his formula but he says he is perfectly healthy and is right where he is suppose to be. He told me to keep doing what i am doing because he is looking good! He did say to wait until 4 months to start rice cereal but when just formula isn't satsifying your child what can you do? i am not going to starve my child. Doctors do not know everything! He has been fine ever since I started him on cereal in every bottle! He actually doesnt spit up that much like he use to and is not constipated. He has a bowel movement everyday and it is normal. To be honest it is just like the new A.R. Emfamil Lipil formula....all that is is formula with rice cereal in it....:)

The earliest they say to start is 4 months, and I would talk to your doctor about it beforehand to make sure he thinks it is ok.

My daughter has had cereal since she was 1 week old as she had reflux and it helped the formula stay down. This was recommended by her DOCTOR! I think they just suggest you wait so that the baby doesn't take the formula. My God son was given cereal in the bottle since he was 2 weeks old and they are both fine!

Babies are definitely curious and they will watch what you do with a lot of interest. But unless there's a particular nutritional problem that you have discussed with your doctor, it's probably better to wait until around 6 months which is the standard recommendation.
