My son is two moths old and has not had a bowel movement in four days. He is pushing like he needs to go but starts screaming and cring like he's in pain. My husband and I have tried everything. What should I do? He is formula fed.

My niece had the same problem, but she was a lot older. You may want to ask your doctor about it. There isn't a lot that a baby that young can take over the counter. I kept telling my brother and his girlfriend to take my niece in, but they wouldn't. But then he asked for help and we got her something over the counter. I am sure your doctor can give you the right advice. He is still pretty young so I would defiantly talk to your doctor.

My daughter just went thru that and we started putting 1 tsp of karo syrup in her bottles and also gave her oatmeal at her nighttime bottle. It really helped her. And also the oatmeal helped her sleep thru the night a little bit better.

I had the same problem with my son .... I did use Prune Juice but i was told to do 3 oz of water to 1 oz of juice.. that really worked fo rme... i used everything before that like corn syrup and castor oil... it helped him poop once and that was it .... but for sure prun juice works :)

I agree with Sara... diluted Prune juice. Also 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil might get things moving but I would talk to his Dr first!

Oh also I have heard Karo syrup... but never tried it!

Prune juice helps, although for a 2-month old it should be diluted. Make sure he's getting lots of water. I know breastfed babies get water anyway because the foremilk has lots of it, I don't know about formula-fed... I guess it's okay to give a baby water, but I don't know. There's been a suggestion about talking with his pediatrician, I'd definitely take that one if nothing else. :) Good luck.

my son was constipated on sma and i was told by my HV to change to Aptamil as its alot thinner, that along with as much cooled boiled water in between feeds worked a treat! xx

water with brown sugarl helped when my baby was 2 months. Also warm baths help.My daughter was constipated on s26 gold formula, i just changed her over to nestle nan pro. My doctor said it was safe to give her 15mls prune juice with water. It works really fast, like 10 minutes and she has a bowel movement. But deffinately no more than 15- 20 mls.

I was advised by my Health Visitor to give my son (who was the same as yours) cooled boiled water no more than 60mls a day as sometimes formula fed babies need extra hydration. Also make sure you follow the instructions exactly for making formula. We found massaging the little ones tummy also helped too. But speak to your healthcare person they will give you proper things you can do and if it gets too bad they may prescribe something to help him along.
