does anyone know about undescended testicle?

my son is 8 days old and one of his testicles was not dropped before birth, they did an ultra sound and said it is there but if it doesn't drop on its own they will do surgery around six months. He was two weeks early, how long before birth does it typically occur? What are the risks of surgery? or not doing the surgery? We don't see the doctor for another week, I wonder how common this is?

Hi there! My 9 months old has an undescended testicle. They usually drop at 27 weeks in utero- but there are heaps of reasons why they sometimes dont. In about 1% of births they dont drop, (more usually one doesnt drop) sometimes they will come down by six months of age.

My boy is having surgery for his in December and he will be 11 months then. Reasonably simple procedure, day surgery. Takes them about 15 minutes.

One of the things that worried me was his own fertility and puberty which I am told will be completely normal. (they only need one to function anyway). The other thing they may do is stitch the other one into the scrotum so that it cant be damaged by torsion etc.

I freaked out a bit when this all happened with my boy, but the surgeon said to me "if something has to be wrong, this is one of the easiest things to fix".

Oh, and this doesnt mean anything about either you or your partner in terms of why it happened.

Hope this helps - happy to help further if I can

It is actually kinda common, I'd tell you the surgery is not that bad but it's surgery there are risk but performing the surgery is actually pretty simple and takes maybe 15 minutes for the surgeon. My suggestion is write down all the questions you have about it and take it to your doctors next time you go even if you have 50 questions by then your doctor should be prepared for any question you have and it can help relieve you and understand more about what you can expect and then again your lil man may be like others and it drop on its own without surgery.
