Does my baby have colic or is it just gas?

[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

My baby seems to cry all of the time. She's very fussy. It doesn't last hours or anything, but she's always farting & crying when being fed & after. She also always cries when we change her. Is this normal? Should I try soy formula? Am I just over reacting? She's only 4 weeks old & I'm a 1st time mom.

My son was the same way. I still believe he is the gassiest baby there is. What helped for him was Mylicon. It is a God send! But he also went through a colicky period which was difficult. To be completely honest...and without sounding like an advertisement...the book or dvd Happiest Baby on the Block would be great too check out. I wish I had had it when my son was going through all that. But if you think it may be just gas...try placing her with her belly high on your shoulder. My son loved it because it put pressure in the right places. But good luck. It does get better!

My daughter was the same way and, yes, it probably is gas and colic- the two tend to go hand in hand.

Are you breastfeeding? I took all dairy out of my diet and the difference is night and day! It made EVERYTHING better! It turns out that cow proteins are much larger than the ones that mommies make and that baby's new digestive system just can't break them down just yet. Take the dairy out of your food and it will be out of hers.

Babies do cry a lot, but if it just seems like your baby is miserable most of the time, she probably just doesn't feel well (Its so easy for us, as 1st time moms to second guess ourselves, but out of anyone, YOU know YOUR baby best and whether or not she is happy)! I hope this helps! Good luck!
