Any one else gone through this? My mom is bi polar and is emotionally and verbally abusive. I dont feel comfortable having my son alone with her EVER. My grandma (her mom) made me promise i would NEVER leave my son alone with her. My mom keeps asking when she'll get to watch her garandson and ive been able to avoid the coversation but i know i cant much longer. And i know no matter what i say or how i say it shes going freek out and make my life hell. Im dreading it!!!

Is she medicated? If not, then not being able to be around her grandson alone might be incentive for her to get medicated. My boyfriend is bipolar so I know the freakouts can be took about a year for us to be able to disagree with eachother without a full on fight breaking out. All I can offer as advice is to put it to her gently. Something like," I love you but, I feel like leaving my son with you could be harmful to him. The reason I think this is because I have witnessed you showing verbal and emotional abuse toward other members of the family and I really don't want my son to have to witness that sort of behavior, especially from his grandma." Good Luck =]

You shouldn't have to go through this at all. Whatever you do, trust your instincts and don't ever give in and let her watch him. If your sure she's going to freak out anyway, then there isn't much you do but know that it's not your fault when she freaks out!!

hope you find the right way for everyone involved xxxxx best wishes

First of all, I am sorry you have to make that decision at all. The best thing about being a your in control of all decisions, no matter how hard. Think?? what is best for your son. If you think your son is not in good hands when concerning your mom, then plain and simple..don't do it!

Will you have to explain yourself to your mom , at some point yes... have confidence in your choice and in yourself. I think your mom will be hurt but will recover. Well GoodLuck!
