How many moms had a doula attend your birth? What was it like?

I had a doula at both my births. The first one she helped me deal with the nurses and helped me deal with problems from not eating and having GD. I was induced and it took 20 hours for me to deliver from the time I started. The second time, my son was very big and the hospital (not in the US) would not let me deliver him naturally. Luckily my contractions stopped and I came home. I switched hospitals and delivered naturally. (My son was 10 lbs 4 oz). My doula helped me with labor and delivery. She also helped with dealing with hospital stuff the first time I went in. I would not have a delivery without a doula or at least a second person. My husband has been great both times, but I found that an additional person, especially a female, helps.

i didn't have a doula at birth, but i had a great experience. the staff was great the nurses were terrific and helped me out so much, they were almost like doulas or midwives! its totally up to you. my friend had a doula and she said it was a great experience, she felt like she was more at home and comfortable
