Gagging on Solids

My son is almost 9 months old. We have been doing pureed babyfood since he was 5 months. I've been slowly trying to introduce the tiniest amounts of table foods (i.e. mixing a little whole rice into the puree, putting some alphabet pasta into the puree, etc.). He refuses it all. He wants nothing to do with actual solid food, in fact he often gags or vomits. Any suggestions?

As frustrating as it is it just sounds as if he's not ready. I'd pull 9 months their bulk nutrition should still becoming from breast milk or formula anyway so don't push it. He'll be ready in his own time.

my daughter often gags if she doesnt like te food that i am trying to feed her. if she gags i stop feeding it to her and offer something else. i then try giving her the food she gaged on a couple days later and she'll usually eat it. sometimes it just takes repetition. good luck! :)

its just a normal act for babies to vomit the solid food, don't be in a hurry or forced him to eat solid foods. breastmilk is still the best source of energy and nutrients. little by little he will learn and love to eat table food. goodluck

When we introduce solids/table food to our son, we didnt mix it with anything we would let him pick it up and we just watched and made sure he didnt choke on himself - he too didnt like it at first but we would keep trying and soon enough - he took to the solids - Just keep trying it'll get easier as he gets use to the texture. Hope it all works out! Good luck!
