Hi, I am 21 now and had my daughter in June last year. I went into preterm labour at 30 weeks with my first baby. I started having very small contractions at 4pm, and 4 hours later i went to the delivery room where I was hooked up to the tracing machines and was give a cocodamol (paracetamol).

I then had a discussion with my doctor, who said that due to my placenta previa, as long as i wasnt bleeding i can get the patch to stop the contractions, And just after that i started beeding - I had to deliver my baby 10 weeks early!

I was given another cocodamol and went to sleep, barely waking during the contractions. I woke up the next morning at 7:10am in pain because my bag of water came down. The doctors all came then and broke my waters. I pushed for 40 minutes and had my baby girl at 8:10 am. Noelani weighed 2lbs 12 oz and had to be ressusitated. She was in SCBU for 7 weeks, no problems just small and came out when she weighed 4lbs 6oz.

Overall I would say apart from all asociated with delivering early, I had a good delivery of all together 16 hours - Slept through most of it and she had a very small head!

I think I lucked out with my labour. It was my first child so I wasn't sure how it was going to be. I expected it to be long and painful. I was wrong. I woke up at 5 am with light cramping and timed them and realized I was in labour. Went to the hospital at 6 am and had him at 11:52 am. I only pushed for about 40 minutes I think. It really didn't seem that long. I dialted so fast that I didn't have time for any pain meds. All natural and no tears or anything. I lucked out.

Labor….

Bed-rest at 37 weeks

Hyper-tension

Misdiagnosed with pre-clamseia

First induction in hospital for 20 hours failed (and the docs lied about the side effects)

Went home

Went back 2 days later

Induction took 2 rounds 24 hours to get to 4 cm

Broke my water

(kidneys failed at this point pre-clamseia was in play but no one knew….)

Had strong contractions for 7 hours NO DIALATION….

Got epidural

Took 20 more hours to get to 10 cm (infections maconium all sorts of other problems)

Pushed for 1 ½ hours

Her heart rate was dropping (duh I had been on my back for so long they should have had me turn on my side for a while then try again but no….) My kidneys were failing I was out of all energy at this point I felt defeated and lost. My heart was broken I wanted a natural childbirth and NOTHING was natural about how my doctors used every intervention on me they could)

Got a c-section

There is more but I don’t have the energy to re-live it again.

Was a HORRIBLE experience at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center… so bad that I don’t want to do it again.

Best advice is no matter how much you prepare for this when you get to the hospital you are scared and they treat you like your having a medical problem not having a baby.

I recommend everyone have there babies at home or birthing center with a midwife.

Don’t trust doctors they well that’s all I am going to say.

 sad so very sad at how my babies birth went

She is so loved and wanted I really wanted her birth to be a beautiful sweet experience and they ripped that from me and I can never have it back.

Mine wasn't as long but it was long enough and damn was it ever torture.... i was in labor for 18 hours! but it was surely worth it... the bad thing was i had been in labor so long i could barely push so they had to use the vaccum to get him out.....

[deleted account]

i was in labor almost 24 hours. But, i only had about 45 minutes of pain. weird i know. the nurse asked me if i was feeling any contractions and i told her i didnt think i was having any and she said "well, you are, theyre a min and a half apart". i only pushed for not even 20 minutes and my baby was 8lbs 1.6oz. hope this answers your question.

With my first child (5 days late) I was in labour for 8 1/2 hours, was at a birthing centre for 6 hours and in the pool for quite a bit, came out at the last minute and had him on a dutch birthing stool.., was pushing for about 45mins in the pool and about 10mins, 4 pushes on the birthing stool and out he came, weighing a whooping 9 lbs and 1/2 ounce, luckily I was all intact! It was an amazing labour, starting slowly and increasing gradually making it all very easy.

The second child came 10 days late in a very quick 3 hours from first contraction, my waters broke at 12 midnight (called the midwife to let her know) and went back to sleep for about 45mins before I got the first contraction, 12.45am...got up got my hubby to start getting things organised...home birth, pool, ice lollies etc and was looking forward to another 8 hour labour...sucking lollies in the pool but other plans had been made for me...but wow what strong contractions...by 2.30am was on my hands and knees on the floor and thought I can't handle this anymore so my hubby called the midwife and told her that my contractions were lasting 60sec and about 90-120 seconds apart...she said he was on her way!!! amazingly she turned up 20mins later and by 3am I had gas and air (thank god!) and had a quick check, blood pressure, baby heart beat checked and straight into the pool (no internal checks) , He was born at 3.31am in the water and another whooping baby this time 9lbs and 10 ounces and thankfully once again I was all intact. I really think that if I had been able to get going with it without gas and air I would have had him when I asked my husband to call the midwife as I was holding in the desire to push!!!

My eldest woke up at 6am to meet his new little brother, ah bless.

As an aside, I had a very stressful second pregnancy with antibodies (Anti-E) making themselves known at 28 weeks...had scans and blood tests to check the antibody levels alternative weeks and was told I would have to not only have a hospital birth but also would have to be induced at 37weeks! I fought this with no support from my midwives, thankfully my consultant was very nice and was kind of on my side, I ended up with my home birth (my antibody levels were always very low never went about 16 and were down to 2 when I gave birth)...poor little baby had to have heel prick tests at birth, 2 hour, 4 hour and 8 hours to check his blood...all was fine and normal at the first one and went down at the second check so I opted for no more...got real pressure from medical profession to not have home birth and to bring baby in straight away...needless to say I refused to do this and he was and is of course just fine...I would have gone in had there been any concern for his well being, obviously.

I have friends who went through very long first labours - 2 days for one friend who when had another child 1 1/2 later and was in labour for a massive 4 hours and similar stories...Each labour is different, I wish you luck!

From the beginning (when I felt cramps) to Wyatt's birth...42 hours. I had bad cramps Tuesday evening, mild contractions all day Wednesday. They go progressively worse Thursday morning and by 2 am Th morning I couldn't sleep through them. I went to the hospital around 9:30 am and he was born at 3:21 pm. I pushed for about 10 minutes. I didn't have an epidural because I didn't want one

I was 39 and the nurse told me I delivered the little guy like I was 17!

With my first child I went to 40 weeks and had 10 1/2 hours of labor. Each of my other kids came a week earlier than the last (39 weeks, 38 weeks and 37 for my fourth). The labors lasted a little longer because I wasn't as far along. The final "pushing" stage was only 15-20 minutes with all but my third. I didn't get an epidural with that one so I had a harder time. My longest labor, begining with the very first contractions was about 15 hours maybe. From the time they were at least 5 mins apart until delivery was about five hours. For my third son, when my water was broken, it took about ten minutes before I was too far along for an epidural.

I had my first, and only in July last year and was in labor for 7 hours. I had him at home with my midwife, from what I've heard, I'm lucky! The contractions were cake up until the hour before I had him. I had an all natural birth, and it was amazing!

My story is strange...I was admitted to labor and delivery on March 12th with contractions. At that time I was dilated 2cms and 70% effaced. They sent me home on the 13th because the contractions stopped and nothing had changed. That day I found out my mom had thyroid cancer and my emotions made me sick. Around 7 that night my back started aching and nothing was helping so at 10 i got out the heating pad and fell asleep... At 6 am the 14th I went to get out of bed and felt a gush whixh i assumed was urine. I went to the bathroom and passed my mucus plug and a lot of blood. By 7 am my water had broken 3 times and i was admitted into labor and delivery again. By 9 I had my epidural and i was dilated 4 and 90% effaced. By 11 my water had broken 4 more times and was very bloody so they rushed me into the OR and Kaitlyn was delivered via c-section at 11:27am. So I guess technically I was in labor for 16 hours but was only aware of it for about 5 hours lol

I was in labor 21.5 hours and my contractions were every 1-2 minutes right from the start because I was induced. It wouldnt have been quite so bad if they were not so close together right from the start and for so long.

Also, to add to my post, I had my daughter WITHOUT any narcotics OR an epidural...ALL natural. I had a vacuum delivery at the end, had pushed for three hours and I had maternal exhaustion. I had a second degree-tear...took an hour to be stitched up!

Well, I just know everyone will hate me.....But my water broke at 2pm on October 8, 2009, and my son was born at 4:28pm October 8, 2009. 2 1/2 hours...The only thing I can think that made my labor so short was that I was working 6 days a week, two jobs, and tended to stay on my feet and walk alot during my pregnancy.

But i have a perfect son Noah Luke who has made it all worth while that I can't wait to have another one!

I was lucky too! Established labour was for 2hrs 47mins according to my midwife but I was only 4 hours and 22 mins from first contraction to baby appearing! In a birth pool all natural and no tearing or stitches! pretty amazing for my first child I thought! Early labour went on for about a day but I only realised that afterwards! I had been waddling a lot more and moving more slowly with a heavy backache but was too busy with Uni work to pay much attention! I went into labour whilst writing my dissertation and finished it in hospital after giving birth! lol no way could have gone natural for 30 hours though!
