If you are nursing I highly recommend nursing during take off and landing. If not nursing, a sippy cup or bottle also works. The key is to get him to suck and swallow because this helps with the pressure in the ears.

Once you have staved off the ear pain, I'd say bring lots of exciting toys and bring out a new one before he gets bored of the one he is playing with. oh, and yummy "special" snacks work great too.

Good luck!!

I always pack a little backpack that they can carry (if he is walking if not just put stuff in your bag) I pack a DVD player books cars and snacks mostly all my sons favorite things. He still gets board but when that happens we get up and take a walk to the bathroom or sing songs or nap time. One thing that I have found now that my son is 6yrs is that a carry on suitcase works better than having two or three bags to lug around. I can pack diapers changes of cloths my book and all his "fun" stuff in it and not have the weight on my shoulder at layover time. Good luck oh and make sure you have a sippy cup of bottle for take off and land to help his ears pop.
