I went the full 6 with my first daughter and I ONLY stopped BECAUSE I dried up... we both would have kept going. My second daughter was allergic to breastmilk-- unfortunately we didnt find out until she was 3 mos... so I had to wean her quickly and she was MISERABLE.. but we found other ways for her to feel that bonding closeness. And my 3rd daughter is just 1 month and I got a horrible infection in my breasts this time and now I am pretty much dry and she is on the bottle. Its different for every one, just follow their lead :)

6 months is the best for you and kiddo. i went the whole year, should have stopped @ 6 months. if you're not into it, your body will probably catch on. if you get sore & swollen i've heard that ice or cold water will relieve the pain. by the time i quit, my daughter was over it and my milk had pretty much dried up.
