what happens if you cant find the string?!? My doctor told me that I was suppose to go in after its been in for 6 months... and um.. its going on almost a year now that I hadn't had it checked....

I tried feeling for the strings but there was nothing... and I cant go back to the doctors because i have no health insurance and around here the public health department wants you to have health insurance so you cant just go in there without one...

I have mirena and I am getting it removed on the 14th. I have mood swings, no sex drive and when we do have sex it hurts if you he goes all the way in, I am losing all my hair. I can't wait to get this thing out of me. I am looking into getting paraguard but no one answered my post yet.

I had the mirena put in around March of '07 as well and i was constantly spotting and/or bleeding!!! i didn't experience the pain during sex or the cramping but it was still very unromantic to have sex while your kinda bleeding....i liked being protected, but i hated the spotting....

and I haven't had sex w/ it yet b/c we're so busy w/ the baby and so exhausted it is the lowest priority but i was worried about that also

it seemed like such a perfect option until i got home and started researching. that's my fault for not doing that before i got it put in. i relied on only my doctor's answers instead of finding my own. maybe i will love it and not have any problems...let's hope for that! lol

When i had it put in, i had bleeding for about a week, and had pain during sex. The whole reason we go on birth control is so we can have sex with the person we love. Why get something put in that makes it painful. God, i hate the merena!

I had the mirena put in August 2007 and still have problems with it here and there but have gotten used to it. For the first 2 months, it was painful for me and I had a lot of abdominal pain. I had spotting and needed to wear almost everyday for about half a year. I thought about getting it removed but turns out the string is missing and so they would have to do a painful procedure to get it out...so I decided to wait the entire 5 years before I get it removed. Every now and then I feel my uterus contracting (and sometimes feels like baby kicks) and I'm not sure if its because of the IUD...but I do get scared about it. I went to my doctor and she said that it can be normal. But in addition to the contractions, I get really bad cramps out of nowhere sometimes. And again, I'm not sure if its because of the IUD, but I've never felt this way before. These contractions/cramps do not occur often, but when they do happen, it freaks me out (I would say they happen once every 3 months). Lastly, I do feel extra pressure during sex, but I'm not sure if it is due to the IUD, my stitches after childbirth, or something else. I'm not sure if anyone else has felt any of these things, but if so, please let me know I'm not the only one...Sometimes I don't know if I can believe everything my doctor is telling me and whether these symptoms really are common.

Yeah I got the mirena. Thanks guys that helps. It was very uncomfortable going in. I felt really sick while she was inserting it and a little faint the minute after and has some light cramping feelings for a few hours after but it's now been 2 days and I feel fine. I don't feel it inside or anything at all. I haven't been bleedig anymore. I was just wondering if anyone experienced the weight gain or depression it can cause. Also, I was worried about getting pregnant w/ this. I know the likelihood is extremely low but that there is still a chance and the complications that go along w/ getting pregnant while having an IUD are pretty extreme.

I have the Mirena and it changed my life...for the better. I have always been sensitive to hormones, and felt a little off for the first few months, but its been smooth sailing since then. I have never felt better. I don't struggle with mood swings like I used to and I just recently had my 1st menstrual cycle in 6 months.

I have the Merena and love it. It took 5 min to put in and I don't feel it at all. I also didn't have any change in mood or weight. I know a few people who also have it and are equally as happy with it. I haven't had it for that long. I just had my first period with it two weeks ago and it was pretty normal. I didn't have any extra bleeding when it was put in and spotted maybe two or three times. Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

I got the merena.... and hated it... along with a few other women I know. Made me crazy, and I couldnt loose the baby weight. I felt like my doctor pushed it on me like she got a bonus or something if she got enought women on it... then when I wanted it out she practically forced me to keep it in for 2 more months. I felt aweful when i had it, depressed, no libido, Cranky and tired all the time. i thought it was just from being a new mom, but then i had it taken out and within a month I felt 100 times better. I have heard of many women who like it though. Just wasnt for me. good luck to you!
