The normal range for sitting is 5-7 months. The normal range for crawling is 6-10 months.

Does he have daily tummy time to strengthen his core muscles used for sitting, standing and walking? At 7 1/2 months and not sitting I think it is worth a visit to a paediatric physiotherapist just to be sure. They can give him some gentle exercises if his muscles need a little help.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have twins who both reached milestones at different times. My daughter didn't sit up or crawl until after the milestone range. She actually crawled before she sat up then before I knew it she was walking. Good luck!

No.. you shouldn't be worried. Every baby has different pace... just continue giving him a full body massage after his daily bath. It helps to strengthen his bones, and helps relieve colic too!

My daughter started what we called commando style crawling when she was about 7 and a half/8 months...then crawling properly about 4-6 weeks later...she couldn't sit up and wasn't interested until she started crawling and it just seemed to happen. My mother always said they were pushed to have us sitting by 6 months but my plunket nurse said don't push it...she will do it all in time with crawling and well it did :-)

i agree with everyone else, no need for concern I think he is totally normal :) but I just wanted to add about the crawling. Some babies bypass crawling and just go right into walking. So if he never acts interested in crawling dont worry about it. If he's rolling over and has other muscle movement dont worry. My mom told me with my first, 'they'll all be on the same page by kindergarten and none of his friends will ask who crawled or sat up first' :)

Some babies go straight to standing and walking without crawling. All babies are different. Try not to worry so much. Have you been practicing sitting with him? Maybe have him sit in the highchair more often and put toys on there. Maybe you should work on standing with him in case hes not a crawler. My daughter goes through stages of growth spurts and milestones, and then a pause before the next one. Maybe hes just in a pause right now and is focusing more on mental milestones etc. I would definatly work on standing with him and let him play in the highchair more often.

I think your son is just taking his time in learning these things. What i find is most of my friends who have boys told me they're slower with certain skills compared to baby girls. For eg. You may find that he learns to roll over pretty quickly but takes ages to learn to sit. It varies among babies, so jz b patient. I guess if you'll like to train him, you can prop him up with a pillow behind him for a few minutes each time every now and again.

You definatly shouldn't b concerned... my daughter is 8 months and still falls over at times... different babies sit up at different times.... but ask your dr just for reassurence!

Not necessarily, but you should ask your doctor just to feel more assured. The age range for the milestones is pretty large for sitting up. I know a mom whose baby sat up by 3 months but my 6 month old still falls over after about 10 seconds
