My little girl scratches me a lot and Im wondering if it is safe to clip them at 5 weeks. Im not sure because he nails seem so short, and yet she can do so much damage.

my baby is 2 months old. i was too scared to clip her nails for the first month or so, so i used little emery boards to file them. i just started clipping them about a week ago and im glad i did because its so much faster and easier than filing long nails down. just do it when shes sleeping and totally relaxed. its even easier if someone else can hold her while you do it. the first couple times i did my baby's nails, her daddy held her and i did one hand one day and the other a day later because she ended up waking up.

I wouldn't recommend biting the nails off, it increases the chance for infection. Our mouths are teeming with bacteria that a baby's nonexistent immune system can't ward off. Clip them while the baby sleeps or use a baby nail file.

I have been clipping my daughters nails since she was about a week old. I tried biting them off but it didnt work for me, so i clip them. i do have to say that it is alot easier if she is asleep cuz thats the only time she is still.

My daughter's nails were so long when she was born I had to clip them the same day she popped out!!! I just use little baby nail scissors and snip just the corner, while she is sleeping, then peel the rest off. They are so soft this is the easiest way to do it.

hey, my boy's almost 3 months and i've been using baby nail clippers since the day we got home from hospital. i have to do them up to twice a week sometimes cuz they grow so fast! (he has heaps of hair too!) it's easy enough to do though, even easier when he's asleep or if you have someone else to hold them. just have to be careful when they squirm! :)

I know a lot of mothers who take a pair of baby nail clippers to the hospital with them when they have a baby. It's never too soon to start clipping a baby's nails, just be sure you have quality nail clippers; it should be quick and easy to clip a nail, if it's not, you need a new pair/brand. The best I've found are by American Red Cross.
Take advantage of that sound sleeping new born and trim those nails. It's much more difficult when they're toddlers and fight you about it. Good luck, and congrats on the new baby. ♥

im afraid i could hurt my 7week old baby so i let my mom do the clippings for me. she usually do it while she's sleeping.

As long as you use special baby clippers or scissors. Otherwise you could hurt them or cut down too far. It's best to do when she's asleep otherwise she'll resist and pull her hand away so not only is it more stressful for you, but she's more likely to get cut by the clippers or scissors.

i clipped my sons nails the day after he was born...his nails hurt! haha...be careful that u dnt cut them to short if you do! there are also nail cipping sissors instead of the baby clippers for an easier trim. good luck!

Filing your baby's nails is the best because clipping makes them very scared and babies would normaly pull away and thus causing you to cut to deep or tear the nail, so untill they understand to hold still i'll surgest to File your baby's nails for now....

you can bite them off. i started clipping my daughters finger nails at about a month. and if you do it while they are sleeping and holding still its so much easier.

I started clipping my sons nails almost right away. If they're long, they can scratch themselves very easily. You can get baby nail clippers, its very easy.

oh, and if it's a bit awkard to get to I just snip a little bit and kinda peel it off. :-)

I've been trimming my little guys fingers & toe nails since he was about 2-3wks old, just over 6mths old now,ith baby scissors. I just make sure I don't go too short and I only do it when he is asleep. He's a very sound sleeper so it's quite easy to do. I do it probably every 7-10days for the fingernails, and every 4-6wks for his big toes (other toes have NEVER been done as they don't seem to grow!!)

i cut my sons nails and have been doing since he was about 3weeks old his nails grow ridiculously fast and im doing it every week.. if u dont feel comfortable cutting them i got told u can also bite them off or put them off with ur fingers as their nails are very soft so its not hard to do. hope that helps :)

I have been filing my daughter's nails for 7 weeks with a regular emery board. I tried clipping them once, but it didn't seem to help that much. Maybe I was just nervous and didn't go short enough, but I'm sticking with the file for awhile longer.
