Not sleeping during the day

My little man is four months old and he has never really slept that much during the day. A normal day would be all up about 1 1/2 hours, but in saying that he sleeps about 11 hours at night. Is this a problem or is it okay. If it's a problem, What should I do to get him to sleep?

depends on your child, but some children do start sleeping through the night at 3m of age, long as he seems happy healthy , eating playing i wouldn't worry too much. If he doesn't "nap" woudlnt' force him if he's sleeping all night. I LOVED when mine starting sleeping through the night.

Heather, my daughter is 7 months old, and has not really "napped" since she was about 8 weeks old. She started sleeping through the night at 3 months. She goes down every night at about 8pm, and sleeps unitl about 5:30ish. Typically, she will nurse, play for an hour, have some cereal, and go back down for a 30-45 minute nap by about 7:30am. That's the longest period she will sleep until bedtime. She does take little 20-25 minute catnaps maybe 2 or 3 more times at random intervals throughout the day, but she has NEVER taken a longer nap than that. People keep telling me that as she got more active, she would wear herself out and start napping, but this has yet to happen. Even on a long car ride, she has never slept more than 45 minutes at a clip. I swear, she is the energizer bunny...and all she needs to recharge is that little 20 minute power nap, and she's good to go! I'll give her this, she is almost always a happy, pleasant baby, so obviously, it's working for her. As a night shift nurse, this has made my life a little difficult, since I had hoped I could nap before working when she did...obviously that is not an option! (My mom watches her for a couple of hours on those days so don't have to go 26 hrs w/o sleep). I have tried just about EVERYTHING, but the bottom line is, she doesn't NEED or want to sleep for any significant period of time duriing the day. I guess you & I should be grateful that our little ones at least sleep throught the night!

My 4 month old daughter is EXACTLY the same. I've tried lots of things to try and get her to have longer naps, but have come to the conclusion that she is just a natural catnapper! She naps for 30-40mins no matter what I do. I'm hoping once she started crawling and becomes more worn out physically that she will start to consolidate these short naps in to 2 longer ones.

My daughter is almost five months and is the same. She sleeps 11:00pm- 8:00 am, eats, goes back to sleep till 10:00am. But, then she is up all day only napping 20 min at a time totaling about 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the day. So, you are not alone. I for one am happy with her sleep schedule, because it allows me to spend time with her because I work.

My daughter is 2 months old and sleeps all night and is up most of the day. I talked to my doctor about it and she said not to worry since she's gaining weight and very healthy . she told me to enjoy the fact that she's on my routine and I don't have to move it around.
