My youngest was born in January and I still haven't started my period. Am so nervous! A friend said that it could be possible that my cycle could be screwed up because of my age and the fact that I just had a baby. Am wondering if I should try a pregnancy test and would anything show up and if so, could I trust the results??? HELP!!!!

unless you have been having unprotected sex, id says its just cause your hormones are all out of whack still. but if you HAVE been having unprotected sex then, yes i strongly urge you to get a test.

I have to agree with your friend, your body has been through ALOT and is probably taking time to readjust. Generally if your breastfeeding as well your period won't restart till after your baby is weaned so thats always a possibility depending on how your feeding bubs.

As for if you can trust a test I honestly have no idea, think that may be something to talk to the doctor about. I don't think it should come up as a false positive because the tests detect a hormone that is only present in pregnant women but yeah, chat with a doctor about that bit just to be sure because I could be completely off the mark!

it depends when you stop breastfeeding as to when your period returns...I got mine about 4 months after giving birth which is when i switched my son to formula. My best friend got hers 8 months after giving birth as she stopped feeding at 7 months....it has to do with hormones. Enjoy it

Thank you all so much for your imput!! It is greatly appreciated. I didn't know about the affect breastfeeding would have on my body seeing as I didn't breastfeed my other two boys and had had a regular period following the six weeks after I had had them both. I have been breastfeeding Anthony since day one. I will be talking to my doctor on Monday just to be sure as I am scheduled to have my tubes tied on the 31st. Again, thank you all for your wisdom :)

I should also add that I only breastfed for the first 2 weeks, and it was still that late!

Dont worry, its normal! Especially if you are breastfeeding, or even if you breastfed at all. My son was born in January of 2008 and I didnt get my period back until May.

i had the same worries.. a spoke to my doctor about it and she said that from haivn ga baby my body is still thinking its pregnant, even though i wasnt, something to do with the hormoes from breast feeding..  if u are really worried you can alwasy have a pregnancy test done but the only realy way would be through a bloody test as i dont think the pregnancy test would be much help considering your hormoe level would be really high..

If your baby is getting nothing but breastmilk, the chance of getting pregnant before your first period in the first 6 months is less than 1% - comparable to using the pill. If your baby is always with you and you nurse on demand day and night, the average time for return of fertility is 14 months - though some moms get their period as early as 3 months, and others not until they wean. If you're not breastfeeding, or are breastfeeding part-time, you should take a pregnancy test and/or see your doctor.

Good luck! Let us know what happens.

Having a baby and breastfeeding do major things to your hormonal systems.... like ladies have been saying, it can take 6-9 months for your period to come back... that DOESN't mean you're not fertile.. but it also doesn't mean your necessarily pregnant. If you've been on demand breastfeeding, from what i've read the earliest your body could be ready for a new baby is 3 months after.. although that's a generalization and not perfect science. the test should show up what's going on. it tests for HCG which is only present with a pregnancy.. do check with your doctor... but don't worry.

I read that it takes 18 months for our bodies to balance back after we have a baby. I had a little girl in October and didn't get a period until January. And I really do think that it's different for everyone. Are you breastfeeding? My girlfriend breastfeeds her baby and didn't get a period until her baby was 9 months old. I wouldn't worry too much (although, I know we all have a secret fear of getting preggo so soon after...so you're not alone there). I don't want to insult your intelligence by asking this, but are you using birth control as well?

Jennifer - when did you stop bleeding after having your son? How long did it last for?
