Something to drink other than formula

When did you start giving your baby something to drink?
What did you give him/her?

Personally, I wouldn't give a baby juice until after fruit has already been introduced in their diet (6 months of age, after veggies) and make sure it's diluted. I believe you can give water at 6 months of age as well, but limit it so that they're not too full for a feeding.

There is no reason that your baby can't have water. My daughter was only 6 weeks when we introduced water (as she was constipated). However, it is coming onto summer here and is really hot so now she has water throughout the day.

I wasn't looking to replace formula. I just figured, a baby is human I'm sure they would like something else to drink. If I were to give my son juice I would definitely add water. I don't want the juice ruining his gum/teeth.

Is there a certain brand of juice that a baby shouldn't drink?

The only thing they need is formula or breast milk for the 1st year. At 10 months they have 'determined' that water is safe other than in minute quantities due to water intoxication in babies. (Throws their electrolyte imbalance off and CAN cause convulsions, seizures and even death. - If you google 'water intoxication in babies' you will find something.) You can start at 6 months to give juice. I would do half juice half water due to all the sugar in it. - BUT, juice should NOT take the place of formula or breast milk. They need the nutrients in it to be healthy, and build up the immunities and fat they need. And at 6 months, it is only recommended up to 4 ounces a day. Good Luck.

They only need formula/milk for the first 6 months. However, if your child becomes constipated it has been recommended to me to give her water.

They only need milk and water til 6 months at least. I'd be careful giving them juice. I wouldn't encourage introducing them to a sweet tooth too early.

Really for the first year of their life they only need formula to drink nothing else. You can start to give Juice or water around 6 months of age, but would limit to only 4 ounces a day. I did not give my kids much juice. They still don't drink much juice even now and they are 11 yrs and 8 yrs. Milk is given at meal times and juice can be drank at snack times. If it is hot I tend to push water instead of juice. Juice is good for you, but has lots of sugar in it.
