Two month old and TV!!!

My two month old is in love with the tv... I know it's the movement and bright colors, but should I start showing him baby/educational programming now or is it too early for that?

my family always tried to show my son TV and I was always a stickler about it.. now he gets to watch 1 episode of curious george or mickey mouse club house per day and its usually in the morning when we first get up. he likes watching tv... what kid wouldnt? but we dont let him watch a lot. We would rather he had more interactive play time. He didnt get to watch any tv until he was almost 10 months old and that was because my husband kept getting up in the morning with him and turning on mickey mouse...

I'd say wait. Pediatricians recommend less than 1/2 hour of TV a day for all kids under 2 years old and those baby DVDs will only encourage him to watch it more.

a lot of pediatricians and child psychologists think that letting children watch any kind of tv (even that made for childrens educational needs) lessens their iq, and a few other negatives. at a younger age, the most recommended thing is to read and sing to your baby, show them educational toys like colored shapes and blocks with numbers, etc. also asking them questions and talking to them, even if they can't respond has shown to work very effectively. it's never too early to start reading to your baby :)

Babies do not learn anything from tv even the stuff aimed at babies. They learn from interacting with people and real experiences. Most babies do show interest in the tv and "watching" a little is no big deal. However too much tv can cause overstimulation and irritabilty. Some research shows attention issues in children who are over-exposed to tv at a young age but the research has been challenged. Overall I wouldn't worry about a little tv watching as long as the main entertainment is with people and toys. I love the baby einstein toys but really the movies are just a money maker. Once your baby is 6months old it might help you to be able to leave him infront of the tv for 1/2 an hour but like I said until kids are 18months - 2yrs they really dont gain any knowledge from tv. By the way I have a degree in Early Childhood Education which is why I feel I can say these things. :)

It's only when I am feeding him that he does this and in the evenings... All day we play and do tummy time... But, everytime I give him a bottle he just stares at the tv, even if it's off... I talked to my ped about it and he told me that this young he is just watching the movement, but to try to limit him from too much t.v. I just didn't know what was considered too much and if it was too early for the educational stuff...
