my daughter is 5 months old, I started her on rice cereal a month ago, I mix it with formula and give it to her with a spoon she has been doing fine.

It is most definately not ok. Ask your pediatrician and I can tell you that he/she will most likely tell you the same. First off, rice cereal in the bottle at any age is not good. Babies fill up on it and it can cause choking in younger babies and excessive weight gain in infants. My family told me to do that too. I was not going to follow the advice of someone who knows what was recommended or common for infant feeding many years ago, I was going to ask my daughter's pediatrician first...which is exactly what you should do.

The purpose of rice cereal is to help the transition from breast/bottle to being spoon fed. That is why you mix it with breastmilk or formula, it tastes the same but has form.

I started at 5 months. That was the time my daughter's pediatrician said she should start. he usually advises starting rice cereal by spoon only at 4 months but my daughter was born at an earlier gestational age and needed to wait a month.

My LO was exclusively breastfeed so I never did the rice in the bottle. I have also heard of people doing this as well but check with your baby's doctor to make sure. However I started feeding her rice cereal at 4 months.
