Worried... is this normal?

My 6 wk old is sleeping with her eyes open a lot. She's done it on occasion from birth, but now it's more frequent. Her father has done it on rare occasions in the 4 yrs we've been together. I'm really worried. He said he thinks she's fine, but I'm worried that maybe we've accidentally given her a mild case of shaken baby syndrom or something. we bounce her lightly on our knees when she's fussy cause it calms her. My aunt saw it and said that it can give her shaken baby syndrome. Now I can't get it out of my head.

Thank you everyone! I had a home nurse come today. I asked her about it and she said it sounded fine. She verified what you all said, that if she had shaken baby syndrome I'd really know.

She's really healthy. She was 5 pounds 13 ounces. She'll be 7 weeks thursday and she's 8 pounds 5.5 ounces now. She's jumped from the 10th percentile to the 25th. She's right on track developmentally and has been holding her head up since birth and now she's lifting herself up on her arms during tummy time (even though it only lasts about 5 mins) i guess that's like push ups to a baby lol.

Thank you for helping me with my concerns. I really appreciate it.

If your bouncing her was causing injury then I wouldn't think it would be soothing her. I wouldn't worry but, just have your pedi check her out if your really concerned.

I had a uncle and a cousin who both would sleep with their eyes open. It was always a bit bizaar to see, but normal. They were both heavy sleepers and their eyes would just pop open. My husband even got a pic of me sleeping with one eye open.

shaken baby syndrom is a very violenty act, i mean you have to shake them hard, thats why when people are saying "i didn't know i was hurting them" i say yeah right because you have to shake them very hard, and if she did have that she would be having other symptoms. . but yeah like sarah said i doubt bouncing her on the knee will do that. . .and also like she said call your doc if your worried

i wouldnt of thought boucing your baby on your leg would give shaken baby syndrome i have done that with all 3 so i wouldnt worry, my eldest daughter who is nearly 9 sleeps with her eyes open yes it scared the c**p out of me the first time she did it but i wouldnt worry too much as she is a normal healthy 8 year old but if do have any concerns then spk to your health visitor just on the safe side to ease your mind x
