I stopped nursing when my son was 6 months old. He liked to bite when he got his first tooth. Ouch!! I got my period for the first time when i completely stopped nursing. With my first son i wasn't really able to nurse him very successfully. I nursed for maybe 2 months but had to supplement the whole time and bled for 6 weeks after i had him then got my period pretty regularly.

Hi :) My daughter will be 5 months old in 4 days, and I've been exclusively breastfeeding her until she was 3 months and a half, when I decided to give her a bit of cereal before bed.

Other than that I still breastfeed her. I never did it ecologically: she has a pacifier & eats cereals and homemade fruit purée once in a while, which she loves! :) Also, I stopped taking Micronor (mini pill) on October 11 because even though it isn't supposed to, it brought down my milk supply greatly.

So! To make a long story short, she goes without feeding at night for periods of 5 to 8 hours and during the day 2 to 4 hours in general. It has been like that since she was 2 and a half months old.On November 2 and 3 I had pretty bad ovulation type pinching and cramps on both sides where the ovaries are. (Before that's how I know I was ovulating...) It was pretty intense. I had more vaginal discharge too. A few days after that I had pain as if I was going to start my period, but nothing happened. Now I still have cramps, my lower back is killing me, I'm impatient and irritable.... grrrr. :( I hope it won't last forever.

My daughter was 3 months when I got my first period; I was breastfeeding too. My midwife said it may be because I'm not nursing enough. I do it about 3x a day.. Ive had 2 consistent periods in 2 months.

I am in the same boat! I would like to start TTC for #2, but my DD is still exclusively BF. She's 15 months old this past February. I had what I thought was my first visit from AF 3 days ago, but it has already stopped. Everything I read online says it could be implantation. I'm not sure if I should wait a few days to see if anything happens.. Or if I should just test now to see if it was. Because DH and I TTC 8 and 12 days before the spotting occurred and 9 days is typically how long it takes to see implantation bleeding. I have no cramps, no bloating, nothing. Just headaches, so I'm not sure what to think..

I found that with all 3 kids I began my period around the time when the kids were 5 months old.

I got mine when my daughter was 3 months and I was exclusively breastfeeding, but in most cases moms don't get it until they start to wean their babies.

Same situation as you, my period returned 20 days after I stopped BF. Is very heavy, I will check with the doctor if it continues like that tomorrow...

I breastfed my first for about 3 months and then pumped for 6 weeks after that. For my second I breastfed for 9 months. Both times I didn't get my period until 6-7 weeks after I stopped breastfeeding/pumping altogether. Even when he was only nursing 1-2 times a day I wouldn't get my period. So for me, in order to concieve again, I would have to stop completely. My doctor said all women are different and it's just how my body works.

I got it back when my son was a year old. It came on June 8th, then on July 8th sharp! And that was it. Now it's September 3rd, and still haven't gotten it. I had a blood test, and it was negative, and I won't even mention the TON of HPTs I've taken....all negative.

I really want to get pregnant again, but I don't know if it's possible if I haven't got my period back, at least not regularly.. :(

I'm still breastfeeding at nights, BTW....

I got mine when my son was 10 1/2 months but he started to ween himself. He only wanted milk 2-3x a day and didn't get milk at night.

Im going through the same thing- my daughter is 11 months old. I thought once i stopped night feeds they would come back but not for me. I only feed my daughter once in the morning and once at bedtime now. I had one period when my daughter was 10 months old and nothing since. I'm not pregnant much to my annoyance as I too am wanting to conceive! From what I've read some people's periods come back fairly quickly and others take a while. You ovulate before your period so if you're lucky you might conceive before your periods have a chance to re-start. Personally I think my body seems to want to wait until my daughter is fully weaned and off the boob until it starts again! try not to stress- it'll happen eventually!

My son is 1 year old and I've had one very light short period but that seemed to be a fluke. :-)

I am still exclusively breast feeding and have not yet gotten my period. However, when I went for my annual physical last month, my doctor said that it is still possible to get pregnant while exclusively breast feeding. I know several people that have conceived children a FEW months after their first child's birth while exclusively breast feeding and not receiving their periods as well.

I got mine back when my son was almost 1yr old. I stopped bfing him at about 10mo+ and got my period back after that. I also have an 8mo old baby and we are stil bfing. I'll stop bfing he i'm ready to go on other forms of birth control. I'll advice you stop bfing and i'm sure you'll conceive, though, some sisters also conceive when they are still bfing.

I did not get my monthlys back untill 18months after the birth of my first child. Its because of your Breast feeding hormons the more you feed the less likely you will get them back the less you feed like down to 1 to 3 feeds per whole day you will get them back i hope this was helpfull to you

I have yet to get mine even though she has been on formula for one month now and I have not bf through the night for at least 5 months. With my second, I got it right before she was one year and was preggers within 2 months (around the time she weened). My first was bottle fed but it took till month 4. But I only had two then got pregnant when she was 9 months. It does vary drastically between person to person. So if you want to conceive another baby, just keep being unprotected and go month to month. Eventually you will either get a period or end up preggers. Because you do need to ovulate before you get your first cycle.

According to my ob/gyn. You still ovulate even though you are not having a cycle. I too did not get my period while BF. My last cycle was in 2009.

This is sooo weird that this particular conversation popped up today because I JUST got a visit from AF this morning after 7.5 months of breastfeeding/pumping. I guess it came back because I stopped 1 feed at night and i've been stretching out the pump sessions an hour longer than before. Anyhow, I certainly DID NOT miss it! PMS and cramps just suck!

I have two children. My son is 8 months and still nursing. I have not gotten my period yet either, but I'm happy with that since we are not trying to conceive. I nursed my daughter for 18 months. She stopped nursing at night altogether by10 months, but my period did not return until she was 15 months old and only nursing about 2-3 times a day.

We have four children, ages 5, 3, 2, and 8 mos.

My period seems to return a month or two after the baby starts taking most of his/her sustenance from solid foods, rather than nursing.

With babies #1-2, my period came back at 8 mos. I nursed both #1 and #2 until 13 months.

Baby #3 ate solids voraciously and abruptly weaned herself at 8 months after my period returned at 7 months.

Baby #4 is 8 mos old now, and he still nurses more than he eats solid foods. So I am still waiting . . . I'm enjoying the break though! Ha ha! I just keep wondering when my period will come back too.

My daughter will be 8 months the 25th of this month and I have yet to get my period. I know every woman is different. I've heard of some women getting the periods immediately and I know women who have gone 2 years before getting theirs. Are you still feeding your little one throughout the night? I believe that plays a pretty big role. My daughter still wakes up for night time feedings. I'm a stay at home mom and I still nurse her on demand, which seems to be every 3 hours. My sister's period returned once shes returned to work and cut back on breast feeding. Her babies only nursed in the morning and at night.

Good luck!! My hubby and I are trying to decide when we want to try for our second.
