Do you have any tips for helping kids concentrate on their studies?

We always try to make learning fun at our house. But there are those times when they need to focus. At those times we make sure to have a quiet space where they will not be distracted. I make sure we break up focused time with plenty of time to stretch, play, and learn in a more hands-on approach.

Boys especially seem to need more time to get up and stretch. I've also found giving my son some play dough keeps his hands busy and moving so he can focus his mind on his work.

What's an educational game or activity you and your kids love?

We play lots of games in our house. I create lots of games that combine my children's interests and the material they need some reinforcement in {you can find all these free printables on my website!!}.

We also love taking advantage of learning outdoors and field trips to local museums. We've also been known to make our vacation align with what we are studying in school. The only thing better than a hands on revolutionary war unit is actually visiting Yorktown!

How do you encourage a love of reading in your kids?

From the time my kids were babies we've read to them. We read together several times a day. I cherish this time to slow down, cuddle up, and share a good book. I think when a parent loves to read it really rubs off!

We play lots of games with sight words and provide lots of books to read. I try to vary up the topic, but they are always language rich and exciting!
