How does blogging help you deal with challenges?

Blogging is a very cathartic process for me. I usually blog when I am feeling particularly overwhelmed and emotional about something. The feedback from readers and other widow bloggers is like having my own built-in support system. Being able to relate to others who have had very similar experiences helps me feel less alone in being such a young widow. It is particularly healing to read other blogger's posts and see that they are going through the same struggles that I am.

What's a book or song that has inspired you?

Very early after the loss of my husband I read a book by Jennifer Silvera called "Believe". She too was another young widow and her message of hope was inspiring. Another book that has been a great resource for me is "A Grief Observed" by C.S. Lewis. I am often inspired by songs...there are too many for me list! I have done many blog posts in which a particular song was a catalyst for me to express my own feelings.

After a particularly rough day, how do you raise your spirits?

I try to tune out the rest of the world and focus on my daughters. They are at such a fun age and they really inspire me to slow down and enjoy these special moments before they grow up. Reading other blogs also helps me because I am able to step outside myself and realize that I'm not the only one having a rough time, and usually there is someone out there who is struggling more than me. It helps me to refocus on what I am grateful for.
