What's the best part of raising a family in SoCal?

Weather, weather, weather. My memories of childhood on the East Coast are filled with rain and snow -- and all that snow gear! In LA, it's sunny and warm most of the year and my kids can be outside without all that STUFF weighing them (and me) down. On the odd occasion I start really hankering for snow I can drive to it in under three hours, which we do, once or twice a year -- and that's plenty.

What's a great destination for a family vacation in SoCal?

I know I should say LA, since I live here -- but honestly, I love San Diego, for all the kid-friendly attractions (the San Diego Zoo is frankly AMAZING), and the Santa Ynez Valley for parent-friendly attractions (great wine + great food) that is shockingly kid-friendly, too. I have a great fondness Solvang and the surrounds because they remind me of my beloved northwest Colorado -- but with way better dining options.

What do your kids love most about living in SoCal?

That's a fascinating question. I've never asked them! I think a safe bet would be the fact that we can swim in our pool 6 months of every year -- they're true water babies.
