Cut My Milk

Somehow drinking wine, swearing, and raising 5 kids including twins, gives me some kind of blogging right. Lucky you - you can join me in the insanity of parenthood, depression, food addiction & more.

What's the best part of raising a family in Australia?

Apart from the world’s most poisonous snakes & spiders? Actually, in the bayside suburb where I live, I have never seen anything scarier than a redback spider, and to be honest - they’re not all that scary.

Australia is beautiful. I raise my five kids in Melbourne in walking distant from the beach. I feel very lucky to live where we live. The Aussie way of life is relaxed and laid back. We love our sport, our beaches, our climate, our diversity and multiculturalism.

In what ways is Australia unique from other places you've lived or traveled?

I haven’t traveled much outside of Australia. I won a trip to Disneyland in LA when I was 17 and had to take my family with me, so I don’t count that as really exploring another country! But I have driven four days across Australia to Perth and three days to Brisbane, with and without kids, and that felt as long as traveling the world.

We have everything in one country, and they're not all that hard to find. A few hours this way - the mountains, the farms, sometimes the snow. A few hours that way - the dry red dirt of the outback, the gold sands of the beach. Take your pick.

What do your kids love most about living in Australia?

I asked my 12 and 13 year olds this question. The beach was the first response. The weather. Feeling safe. No war. No guns. Freedom. Great schools. Great parklands. Sport. Cute and unique native animals. Family. Not bad answers, kids!

Everyone in my small family lives somewhere in Australia, so we know we are only a few hours away from each other, if need be. I honestly can’t imagine living anywhere else.
