What's your favorite affordable outdoor activity to do with your kids?

We love hiking as a family. Other than gas, we don't have to spend a lot on this activity and we can get affordable clothing second hand. It's also something I can do with my son during the week when my husband is working. It doesn't have to be a big adventure. There are great trails right in my city that are close to home.

What tips do you have for spending time outdoors when its cold?

Get good clothing, make sure the kids are warm, and then just get outside - even if it's just for 15 minutes.
As well, I find kids will play longer outside in winter when they have friends to play with. We always try to meet up with other families for winter outdoor play. A 10 min. visit to the playground will end up becoming a 45 min. play date instead.

What's a great vacation destination for families that want to spend time outside?

We love camping here in the Canadian Rockies and one of our favourite places to camp is Dinosaur Provincial Park. There are hiking trails all around the campground and you don't have to drive to get to them. There's a creek that runs through the campground, and a great little playground. You can ride bikes around the campground too. It's a great family-friendly place to camp and gets warmer earlier than camping in the mountains.

We try to go camping as many weekends as possible over the summer. A campground costs under $30/night and we don't have to eat out. The money we spend on food would be the same money we'd spend at home. We have some amazing campgrounds here in Alberta, Canada and if the mountains are too cold for you, we have great places to camp out on the prairie. We go camping with other families so that the kids can all run around, play in the creek, hike, blow bubbles, play soccer, and explore - together. It's a lot of fun and we don't have to travel far to find a good campground.

From Twister to "sardines in a can," we're always looking for indoor games that get our kids moving and burning off energy! Can you share a physical game your kids love that can be played inside?

Tanya Koob

My son loves playing hide and seek. We even played it today by counting in Spanish which my son is learning in preschool. Every game leads to us chasing each other around the house laughing hysterically.
