Of all the DIY projects you've done, which was your favorite?

I have to say the most rewarding would be the kitchen, because it was 100% family style diy! Myself, my husband and my dad tackled it all; from demo, to installing new cabinets and laying counter top tile, to putting up beadboard walls. Everything was completed by us, so it's really personal. It offered the most challenges and the most dramatic changes. All I know, is we are so glad we have a few before pictures. Otherwise, I don't know if anyone would believe just how bad it was.

What's your advice for moms who want to decorate their home on a budget?

Make a plan. A list is a great place to start. You can decide what room you'd like to work on first and gather supplies as you find or create them. I'm sure it's a no-brainer, but blogs and pinterest are great places to find ideas and inspiration. I do all the norms of today like shopping tags sales, estate sales, thrift stores and discount stores to find decor and furnishings. Some I can make over or pick parts from, some I use as is! Don't decorate for anyone but you. You're the only one who lives in your home. Also, don't follow trends. I only do something that is "in" if I happen to actually like it. I don't own a single chevron anything. And that is okay!! Be authentic. But follow if you love it. That is okay too!!

Where do you find inspiration for keeping your home stylish?

I don't know that my home is stylish? It's just a collection of things I love, find interesting or that speak to me. You know, that little whisper you hear that says; "you have to take me home or you'll never get me out of your head". I know I am not the only one who hears voices. I find inspiration all around me. In the seasons, nature, blogs and pinterest (just like everyone else. lol) and traditional places like magazines. I still love to flip through a real deal, in-print publication. I keep stacks next to my bed. Reading them is an indulgence.
