Some toys remain favorites for years; can you recommend one for young children (age 2-5)?

My daughter was two when my son was born and she went through a rough transition period. Luckily, she got a Graco baby play set around this time, which included a pretend car seat, high chair, baby backpack, baby bottle etc. She adored carrying her dolls around and feeding them the way I was feeding and caring for her new brother. There were so many options for her to play with that it took a long time for her to get bored. Her brother is 2 now and we are STILL playing with that stuff almost two years later! I guess that shows that women really are born to be nurturers! :-)

What do you do when another kid hits your child on the playground?

I think it depends on bad the altercation is. Generally, I'm a big believer in letting kids work things out for themselves so that they can begin to learn the skills they will need to know to stand up to bullies (I learned a lot from the book, A Nation of Wimps by Lenore Skenazy). However, if the hitting was vicious or I feel like my kid is learning really bad lessons, I don't shy away from telling someone else's kid that hitting isn't okay. I say it politely, but firmly.
