Mrs. Doherty Unleashed

This mother of four is hilarious. She writes about everyday subjects that any mother can relate to and throws in random stories about watching sports, farts and toll booths. It seems random but somehow she makes it work. An easy read!

What tips would you give a mom who wants to write a book?

I would give a new author the same advice I give my friends becoming a new mom. I always tell new moms not to be afraid of the unknown. Parent from your heart and as long as the kids know they are loved, the rest falls into place. I feel the same way about writing a book. Don't be afraid of being judged. Write from your heart and you will certainly make a difference in someone else's life.

How do you balance writing and motherhood?

I write late at night when the kids are sound asleep. There is no other opportunity during the day for me. I have 4 kids, so the daily schedule is packed with activities. I struggle trying to balance my need to sleep with my desire to write. Some nights my body needs sleep to accomplish any writing. Other nights I have to write so I can sleep. I do my best.

Where do you find writing inspiration?

I am inspired by the daily chaos that surrounds me as a mother. I listen and I watch. Sometimes the normal chaos will remind me of my childhood or highlight the innocent, sweet thoughts of a toddler. These moments make my heart smile. In my opinion, it's the good stuff! I often jot these moments down and use them for a future story. I like to write about anything that makes me laugh, including misery. Let's be honest. Sometimes there is nothing more hysterical than good old-fashioned misery!
