Helping you save money and having fun along the way!

Patricia is a winner of Top 25 Southern Moms - 2012

In what way is the South unique from other places you've lived or traveled?

Oh my. The food is better. The culture is wonderful. The people are even better. I can't imagine living anywhere else but south Louisiana.

What outdoor activity do you enjoy doing most with your kids?

Fishing. My girls absolutely love to 'fish'. By that I mean, throwing a cork with a weight in the water and reeling it in.

What's a great destination for a family vacation in the South?

Everyone loves going to the beach in the summer of course, but there are tons of things to do! There's festivals just about every weekend in the south. There's Mardi Gras (and you don't have to go to New Orleans to experience it). There's old homes and plantations. The south in general is rich in history and proudly displays it.

At what age did you (or would you) give your child a cell phone? (Please include any contracts or conditions you gave your child with this use)

Patricia Frederick

My girls are way too young (1 and 5) to even consider this, but I did get my little cousin a cell phone at 16. He was in sports and had a lot of away games so it was for him to call when he needed something or needed a ride. I think I will wait until my girls are about 15 or so before they get a cell phone and it will be a prepaid one. They will have to work (chores and things around the house) to be able to buy minutes. Every night at approximately 9 pm all cell phones will have to be left in a bowl in the kitchen until the following morning . Also, there will be no cell phones allowed during meals or family gatherings. If they break the rules, it will get taken away.

Do you try to give back when you declutter? Please share your family traditions for benefitting others.

Patricia Frederick

Yes, definitely. I get my children involved to. I explain to them that their are other kids in this world that are not as blessed as them to have all the toys/clothes/things that they have. That there are even some kids without Mommies or Daddies. It really means a lot to my children and me when we sit down together as a family and go through all their old toys and clothes to donate. It gives them a since of pride that they are helping another child.
