Oh, The Tangled Webb We Weave

Half my heart is in Afghanistan and the other half belongs to a little boy with Designer Genes. I love the Lord, I love my family, I love stringing words together and sharing our story. I am blessed.

How does blogging help you deal with challenges?

I think everybody needs a way to express feelings and emotions. For me, I need to write. It's something I've enjoyed and, since Ben's birth, something I've needed. Blogging has given me an opportunity to minister to others by how we deal with challenges. My ultimate goal is to encourage readers. It's important for me to be real and showcase those raw emotions. Everybody has a story. I'm just sharing ours with the world.

What's a book or song that has inspired you?

Music is just accompaniment to amazing stories in my opinion. I love songs that showcase those raw emotions that I like to write about. I love when a song grabs you by the throat and strings words together you never would've thought to put in the same sentence. To me, a great song is one that moves me emotionally and challenges me to live better and love deeper. It's hard to pick just one, but definitely on the soundtrack of my life right now is Bring The Rain by Mercy Me. The words are brilliant and convey how I feel about life. "And I know there'll be days - When this life brings me pain - But if that's what it takes to praise You - Jesus, bring the rain."

After a particularly rough day, how do you raise your spirits?

I've found that it's so easy to get overwhelmed sometimes with just the day-to-day things going on. If I'm feeling overwhelmed or discouraged, I make an extra effort to smile with my little dude, take a walk or head to our favorite beach spot. I just like to find a way to "stop and smell the roses" (or salt water). Life goes by entirely too quickly to let yourself have a lot of rough days. Happiness is a choice. I like happy.
