Single Mom Letters

I'm a mom & I blog. This is a place to vent a little about the extra joys and pains of parenting a teenager!

What's the biggest misconception people have about single parenting?

I think we are ignored more often than misunderstood. The one thing I hate to hear is married women calling themselves single moms when their relationships are in trouble or husbands are simply away on business.

A single parent is unmarried. Many if not most of us get no or limited child support. There is often a lack of support from the non custodial parent. Sometimes they are completely missing or gone from the life of the child or children.

What's the most rewarding thing about being a single parent?

I feel the same pride in accomplishment for the job of parenting done well that any parent can feel. There is the added knowledge that I am doing it alone. That is as much an encouragement as it is a detraction from my joy.

What's the most important thing being a single parent has taught you?

We have been in some dire straits which have revealed the kindness of strangers and the helpfulness of those we find near. I also see growth in myself as a person and a mom. Maybe it would have happened anyway. I have no idea.

What's your favorite food to make or eat on St. Patrick's Day? Do you have a tried and true Irish recipe? Please share a link to your recipe, with a photo.

I like to suggest people make this surprising pie that is very green if they need a unique dessert in the theme color around St. Patricks day. I can't call it Irish however. I have a recipe for Irish Tipsy Cake maybe I will make that this year. I don't recommend anyone take that to the day time company pot luck. hahhahahaha
