What do your kids love most about living in New York?

Daniele: We are very fortunate to live on Long Island, NY. There is always something to do, any time of the year. Being surrounded by water allows us amazing access to both the ocean and bay beaches. We are also able to enjoy the diverse agricultural aspect of the North and South forks of Long Island. We are also lucky to be an hour east of NYC and an hour west of the eastern end of Long Island. We really love our location. It is incredible that just a short hour in either direction can bring you to the big city or to rural farmland.

Denine: Another great perk of living in New York is that our children get to fully experience all four seasons. Long Island's climate allows us to see the passing of time by simply watching our surroundings. The changing colors of leaves, the crops that are in season, or the amount of jellyfish in the ocean - they all change with each season and being able to appreciate that is a truly spectacular way to live life.

What's a great destination for a family vacation in New York?

Daniele: For us, it would have to be visiting the Fire Island National Seashore. As the temperatures drop, we love bundling up the kids and heading out to explore. Our favorite spot is the Fire Island Lighthouse. Our children love walking along the boardwalk to spot the White-tailed deer and rabbits. We also love to make our way down to the beach to watch the Piping Plovers running up and down the beach.

Denine: For my family, it's always going to be a day trip "Out East". We really enjoy the old school simplicity of just packing up the car and heading out for the day. We're huge fans of the North Fork because there's always something for us to do as a family. It doesn't matter if we're going to the Strawberry Festival, or apple and pumpkin picking, or just buying produce and flowers from local farm stands galore - there is always something to be said for a day trip "Out East".

What's your favorite affordable outdoor activity to do with your kids?

Daniele: Our favorite outdoor activity would have to be visiting the numerous State Parks on Long Island. Our favorites include the Bayard Cutting Arboretum Bayard Cutting Arboretum and the Connetquot River State Park Preserve. Living in a suburban area, we long to stretch our legs and let our children run out in the open., and we can do that at the State Parks in our area. Most charge a nominal parking fee and then you are free to explore the day away. We really enjoy being out in the open, walking, running and enjoying Long Island's natural habitats.

Denine: We're surrounded by water, so it would have to be swimming. I'm pretty sure that my siblings and I knew how to swim before we could crawl, and as children, we spent our summers living on our parent's boat at Atlantique, on Fire Island. Those summers were magical - just your family, your boat, and the endless beaches and water. It was a different way of life back then, but one that we look forward to recreating with our own kids as time goes by. So it goes without saying that we spend the majority of our free time in the summer swimming in the bay, the ocean, or the pool!
