2 month old with a cold

How do I treat a baby with a cold....congestion, difficulty breastfeeding due to breathing, dry cough...?

For the congestion, my baby's pediatrician recommended baby Saline spray. Just drop a few drops in each nostril, wait about 30 seconds, then use a suction bulb to remove the mucous. You can also use a humidifier which should help the coughing too. If you use the saline spray before a feeding, it should remove the congestion and make it easier for your baby to nurse, which is important when a child is sick, so that he/she can get the antibodies. Good luck, and I hope your little one feels better soon!

Great advice from Lauren...not much else you can do. I was going to tell you that when my son was sick a few months ago he was so congested that he couldn't breastfeed. He was hysterical because he wanted to nurse, but couldn't breathe while doing it. I pumped milk and fed it to him through a dropper...worked very well for a couple of feedings when he just couldn't latch on because of congestion. I obviously wouldn't recommend this as a long-term solution, but desperate times call for desperate measures!!

Saline drops and use the suction bulb thingy to get all the gunk out! A humidifier can do wonders as well! Hope baby feels better soon!!

Not much you can do even when they get older - and the congestion that goes with teething on top of that.

I bought baby vicks, infant hydrasense and a baby nasal aspirator. It's really all you can do.

My hubby slathered the vicks on baby's chest then put his onesie on top of it. It warms up and the scent helps to break up the congestion. I personally am not a big fan of vicks (my parents didn't use it with us when we were kids), but it worked for Alexander when he was 10 months old.

Baby will probably HATE the nasal aspirator but will barely tolerate it when their nose is stuffed up. We use it when Alexander is even moderately congested - I can hear the "snerking" when he's nursing.

He's 1 year old and we're still breastfeeding.

Best wishes!

Ok, thank you everyone for all your advise :) I found she does HATE the suction bulb but it did work. Not sure the baby vicks is safe? I have it but have only used it on myself in the past. She went to see the Pediatrician today and he said basically that she will get over the virus herself in time. Hopefully sooner, rather than later! :)

She's still smiling through it all :) Such an angel!

thanks again
